    " The White House "

The White House, one of the most recognizable buildings in Washington, DC, was designed by James Hoban, an Irish-born and-trained architect who won a competition organized by President George Washington and Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson in 1792.......................

So this Dublin lad decided to build his own version of it in Northeast Thailand.

There was a real reason behind this build, that will be revealed later.

I am 7 years married, with a Cool looking wife and a 3 year old Dublin born Daughter. I also have a 13 year old Son from my first marriage.

To start off my wifes granmother gave her a very sought after piece of land when we got married, directly looking over a lake. 3 years ago I decided to build on it, never having any experience in technical drawing I drew out the floorplan with a Builder at a swimming pool bar, In central UdonThani...........Where better to start.

Perfect in every detail. Sorry, cannot show you the upper level plans as I was pissed by the time the builder and myself got to " The Upper Level "

So I left it with him...

So we got 45 trucks to fill up the land to the proper height.

^ Thats it after the trucks and a dose of the Piles

Here is the most important item for me , the view over a lovely serene lake. So then I started thinking BIG and I mean BIG. Big money as well.

    Nice view though.

So in comes Bob the Builder.

I was doing this by remote control. My job was to send over 700.000 Baht on a certain day every month. My builders job was to stick to the contract. I was losing my ass on the Thai exchange rate. It had fallen by 6 Baht to the Euro from the time of signing the contract. A well its only money. FECK FECK FECK.

So in come the boys, all the best equipment of course. All the stuff used in the build was of A1 Quality.

OH............ I forgot I bought 3 Rai around the corner for a million baht for the Craic as well ( Craic means joke or fun in Irish )

The Château de Rastignac is a neoclassical style country house located in La Bachellerie, near Bordeaux in the Dordogne in France. It was built between 1812 and 1817 to designs by the architect Mathurin Salat (1755–1822), sometimes called "Blanchard". The house was built of limestone by the Marquis de Rastignac.

    First things first though!
    Bloody Hell !
First build a nice fishing dock on the lake with a sala on it !!
Wire up a tannoy from the sala to the building site so you can sit there, in the shade fishin, with a cold beer and a pair of binoculars, and control the construction crew !!!

Even though you seem to have started on the wrong foot best of luck with it and looking forward to the progress thread !

I would imagine that if you get any problems there are enough spare brains lurking behind the Teak Door who will be willing to offer serious advice !

This is not just a building thread. Its going to be long but not tedious.

    Ok . On we go

I ordered these special ICI bricks for keeping the heat out in summer, and retaining the heat in winter. Forget what their called, except they cost a lot!
I know I am very technical in these matters.

They look crap at the present, they used Isopon or someting and the end result was spot on.

You realise that if you build a bar in your house that your home will never be empty?

Here that are starting the stairs. Fell down the bloody things twice, even with the bars around them, or whatever their called, maybe railings.

    Upstairs we go

This is where I realised how high it was. Got my measurements wrong! Especially when the side eves of the house overhang the coppers premises each side

Nothing a few cent didnt take care of in land registry I am supposed to build 9 feet from the nearest Wall/Boundary. Ah well shit happens.

Metal things for holding up the roof.

Excellent work their chaps, with my top class granite ^ I am only putting this in early, because somebody didnt read the FECKING PLANS.

They went to great lenghts to ensure the Scaffolding was Iso EN 2002 Standard.
I mean would you walk on that ^. Would you even hang a Tesco bag of Banannas out of it?
