In need of a Decent Oven

I am currently in the process of remolding the wife's old country home. The kitchen is the next project that I am going to be working on, and I would like to have an oven that is temperature controlled. The stove that I currently have is a gas model with 3 burners and an oven. The problem is, that the oven is not temperature contolled, you just turn the flame either up or down. Trial and error, a piece of shit for baking anything. I want an oven that will let me bake bread, pork and beef roast, chickens and anything that needs a constant temp. I have seen at HomePro, different ovens, but am not quite sure what they all do. A convection oven would be great, as would a built in model. A countertop model would be allright also. Can anyone give me some help on choosing a model??

    Thanks for your help.

OK Now, fairy tales start with "once upon a time" Sea stories start with "Now this ain't no shit".
But this really ain't no shit, just ask Norton or anyone that has eaten at my house in the last year.
We got a dude on here that was fucking around at Tesco/Lotus and found a table top oven, convection oven, and was asking about what it was on here, we all bought one on sale, finest fucking thing I have in my kitchen, Norton ate here, Cowboy ate here a few others too, and when they left here they went and bought one too.
OTTO, big glass pot with a fan circ. heating unit on top that does a fine thing to NY STRIP roast beef, or a chicken or a bboneless turkey breast, Brownies.
Plus I found in CM at Siam TV a Majestic 3 burner top with thermostat controled oven and a built in timer for less than 10K, works very well and very accurate thermo control too. and for 12K was one with 2 burners in oven, but I do not ever use the upper broiling one so I didn't buy that one.
But you for damn sure want to go to tesco and buy that OTTO convection table model gizmo.

It's a dandy. I use it far more than the Siemens oven I have. Only time I use the Siemens is for a very big turkey.

Comes in four sizes. The one I have is big enough for a large chicken or any kind of roast. At 2,000 baht a real bargain.

Have to admit that we use the glass oven when we can as it is so good for cooking meats.

We use the gas oven for baking or when a higher temp is needed.
The Otto does not have a high max temp

Convection. Has a very high intensity heat lamp with a fan circulating the hot air downward. It may be made in Thailand but possibly China.

You're right it does, must have been the old one that only went up to 200c

The problem is with the size.
Not enough room to do a shepherds pie or anything that needs a baking tray.

I've been looking for one for mostly baking, Siemens, Electrolux, and Technogas are a few that I've looked at but still don't know which one is the best. Looking to spend about 17k on it but no more. Looked at a couple of the wider ones but they are out of my range. Mostly going to be for pies, cakes and brownies.

I bought a Electrolux many years ago from Home Pro. I think it was close to B40,000. Have to say it works great.

Good point. When I cook a big tray of lasagna or bake a pizza, I use the Siemens. The Siemens is gas but has an electric top element that does a nice job browning the surface of casserole dishes.

There are a few more available in Thailand. IMO, all are similar in price and quality. I choose the Siemens primarily because there is a local authorized service center. An important consideration when you make your selection.

a lot of those cheap made in Thailand electrics are quite poor in quality; they break down after a few months. Hope yours doesn't. Mind you, it is cheap enough to replace easily

Check out counter top line of ovens made by Toshiba. I purchased one (model ER-B7TC) last year for 10k baht and have no regrets. Its a grill, oven and microwave all in one. Oven works great but have not tried to grill anything. It also has a stone oven setting for bread and pizza's which I have yet to try.

One nice feature about the microwave when you reheat food. No more guessing how many seconds or minutes it will take just set desired food temp and hit start.

Thought i'd add my 1 baht's worth for anyone else reading this thread , seeing as its a bit old now and i presume you already have one .. i bought the minoya MOV53TM for 2,990 baht from makro in rangsit, bkk

used it everyday since i got it , perfect for everything from spit roasting chicken ( no problems with a 2kg chicken ), cakes, quiche ,12'' pizza, steaks, roast vegetables and even bread

you can select to have the heat come from top , bottom or both , turn the fan on or off , up to 250C and has a 60 minute timer which turns everything off when the bell rings at the end , its 53 litres , comes with the rod and forks for spit roasting plus a handy tool for removing the spit bar when its got a hot cooked chicken on it etc , also a wire rack which can be used as a cooling rack outside the oven and finally a solid metal grill ''plate?'' to cook your steaks on etc , . easy to clean and has a removable metal sheet at the bottom

i bought a thermometer to put inside the oven to check the temperatures and its pretty accurate , maybe about 10-20C over sometimes if youve just turned it on and kept the door closed but levels out to what you set it to after youopen the door and put what your cooking inside

i would add some photos that ive just taken .. but my post count needs to be atleast 5 ..lol .. som nam nah phom .. maybe i'll come back and add them after i post a few questions i have about water filters in the other forum

I've just bought an "OTTO" convection oven at Tesco for 1990 bahts. (Same price as Makro!!) I's a midget oven, countertop, and so far seems to work ok. Cooked piece of fish + vegetables in about 15 - 20 mins. Currently looking for a guard of some description - like an inverted strainer - to go over the food to prevent the inside getting too oil-splashed.

Use tin foil for a splash guard.
