    Toilet Flanges in Thailand

Are these not needed in Thailand ?

Seems every damm toilet here is just lined up over a tiled hole and then sealed around the outside of the bowl gluing it in place.

    WTF ???

It may make for a pretty site when you need to replace the toilet.

They do not use them, and will argue that they are not needed, and they really have no idea what the fuk they are either.
Also they do not sell them,
There is one toilet kit thing that has the bowl, tank and it does come with a floor flange and wax ring in the box. it is an American Standard and I had to go to a neighboring town that had one in stock, then by luck, he had sold a kit to some somchai that didnt know what the thing was so said he didn't want it and left it there, I bought it and now have a 2 bathroom house with correct shitters in both.

You sure as shit are 100% correct about that. Tried over 5 of the big home centers and came as close as a partially opened box not containing all the parts - wax ring and flange most importantly.

So the question has to be asked, why are these flanges needed in Thailand? Explain their use fully.

The flange and a wax seal allows you to place and secure the toilet bowl directly on top of the drainage pipe underneath.

This provides an actual seal between the bowl and floor as opposed to just placing the bowl over the exposed pipe and letting the shit and piss fly all around underneath, regardless of just cementing the bowl in place.

OK, but most toilets in Thailand have no place for a fixing onto a flange, also most toilets the outlet is 2.5 inches and then it goes into a 4 inch pipe which is concreted into place.

OK , so a blue PVC adapter could easily be made to lay flush with the flooring and a flange attached so a proper seal can be met with the bowl and floor - it just makes sense and it is the ways toilets are designed.

Do you approve of just gluing the bowl over a hole ?

I have to admit I am no plumbing expert, UK toilets empty out the back and is pipe fed into a cavity wall, ie a proper conection as we have wooden floors or particle board floors, here we have concrete floors with the pvc pipe embeded into 10cm of concrete, the floor is tiled right upto the pipe, and the toilet seated roughly on top of the pipe, have about 3cm leeway each way, so both ways they are sealed from damaging anything, although the Thai way in theory may seem to be a bit sloppy, but it does work.

I was told the American Standard service center on Sukumvit Road (across from the new Boonthavorn) would have the kits.

Need to go and see if this is so.

This sort of stuff is way too deep for thai construction people,

I have found when they connect 2 toilets together they use a tee instead of
a Wye, and use short radius elbows instead of long radius ones,. Ho, and vent pipes ? what the hell is a vent pipe!

    Shit does not flow well.

Why don't you think a "T" would work? You need if memory serves me correct 2cm slope per meter, the "T" is being formed into concrete, don't need a lot of pressure on that when you do the form for the pour to get the degree of slope you need.

Makes no diff if you have 3 or 4" drain pipe, tile or wooden floors, the flange has a compound on it to seal to the floor, then the flange is fastened over the pipe with the short spout going down the pipe, then the wax ring is fitted to the toilet bowl and sat on the floor flange with the 2 bolts from the flange up thru the holes in the bowl and it is bolted down and no water will get on the floor as the whole thing is sealed together.

as you can see, the toilet is bolted to the flange, not the floor and that compresses the wax ring that is the seal.

The reason for long sweeps and wye's instead of short els and "Ts" is where toilet paper is used and women sometimes tend to flush kotex and paper towels down shitters, it can sometimes make it around long smooth turns, which also goes for hair from combs and brushes flushed will hang on about anything and build a dam in your pipes and so more plugged drains and more money for Mr. RotoRooter to take your troubles down the drain.
As for Vent Pipes, they are usually someplace the down line connects to the main line and just above a "P" trap, the vent breaks the vacume when the water is running down and so doesn't suck the water out of the "P" trap and let sewer gas back into your house.
Also without a vent on the sewer line from the bowl to the septic or sewer, when flushed the vacume will suck the water out of the "P" trap that is built into your toilet bowl.

Lets take a look at this picture again.

vynal floor covering, wooden floor boards, rotted wood, how many Thai places have toilets like this, ie a toilet on a wooden floor? Has anybody seen one? Is there such a thing in Thailand?

Very true, it does not invalidate the Thai way, but it is the correct way, thats why the bowl has the 2 holes on the lower flange, and that 2 1/2 ring on the lower part for the wax ring,
and it is much easier to remove the bowl if it has to be removed because of a plugged line than using a hammer and chisel..and maybe the cement seal that you put on it is leaking a little = Shit water on floor all the time., with the flange there is no way it can leak on the floor, even with a plugged line, all it will do is fill the bowl and might run over.

Those are spaced way too far out to get anywhere near a flange on most Thai toilets, they are just securing holes which are copied from other countries toilets..

You saying this is not the same basic system as in the UK ?

Also the floor can be tile, wood or anything else even concrete as in Thailand.

The issue is connecting the shitter directly to the sewer pipe creating a proper seal.

That is a completely different system bobby, your comparing 2 completely different things, but those lug holes are for securing the toilet as the Thai ones are.

I am emphasizing the proper seal bit, a toilet in Thailand is white cemented down and it is a proper seal, no leaks etc.

But the Thai toilets in question are not secured by using those holes !!!

They just cement the damm thing over the hole.

The toilets here seem to be just placed over the drain / sewer lead then cemented into place - no wax seal , no flange securing the bowl directly to the pipe.

Fok me, we got a toilet thread on here already, of course it is sealed, just that the seal is wider than what you are used to and uses white cement, the foking pipe aint gonna move as it is in 10cm of poxy concrete and then tiled into place, the toilet aint gonna move as it is cemented into place, why the fok would anybody bother drilling in 2 screws that will just get rusty in your normal Thai bathroom, you aint in America now with carpeted floored bathrooms.
