I do a lot of work with Illustrator and Photoshop, although I don't use all their features. Do you think it would be difficult for me to use Sketchup or chief Architect?

To be perfectly honest, I found it easier to use Photoshop.

Yeah, I've just downloaded the Sketch up and doesn't look that easy. Although it would probably help if I tried the tutorial.

I can't use excel and am no good at accounting.

For plans Illustrator is really good, but it's not 3D. For floor plans it's perfect though, because you've got the rulers along the top, just do everything in 1:100.

I use a paper and pencil, also a ruler, sometimes an eraser

very flexible and easily done

after finalising the drawings, I get a guy to put them onto CD for the planning stage

I found the easiest way was just to steal them off the Internet, then amend them slightly to your specification.

^ thanks that looks really good i will try that.

I draw it, use pencil and eraser, get angry at how i cant imagine it so well in 2d or even 3d perspective and so build it out of clay.

i am currently finishing my first project which i can show you all if someone tells me how to post pics?

i got as far as the gallery and then it got to complicated for my brain, so look in gallery search guest house clay and you'll find it!

it a working model, its based around an english cottage, which is why its rounded uneven and not symmetrical, this to me adds character i hope you agree any opinions welcome, remember its my first one and the photo's dont really pick it up so well.

thanks

thanks i know its a bit sucky but it was my first attempt!

in reality it allows 3d presense of a plan to come to life and you can see design faults, and see where construction methods you must focus on which helps alot especiallt with the type of house im building!!!!!!

B2S sell them for 10 badt, the lolli sticks that is, the clay is 17 B for a good size so all in all its cheap but takes a lot of time butt hats how you get to understand the house better. im already moving on to number 2 which i hope you will see to be an improvement? hope, fingers crossed.

Sketchup works really well with photoshop and should definately be worth your while learning even the basics, sketchup whorehouse has thousands of objects to download also.once you master sketchup then export to photoshop and play around with layers to achieve the 'dennis effect'

Here is a relatively new site with one portion currently in Beta development. Both 2D and 3D, it allows even a novice to produce floorplans easily and expertly. Not as full of functions as previously mentioned programs it nevetheless gives you a solid look at what your design will look like on the ground Try it, why don't you at: Create and Share Floorplans Online with Floorplanner.com

Sure. How do you get the right scale ? Do you first draw it with excel and then print it out ?

I was sent the examples files for Excel by Mally and they are first class. Download them and you we be surprised. Then comment on what he has done. Must of took 100 of hours or more to create. Worth an email to him to find out. costs nothing.
