3D CAD Qualified Architect

Hey all,

I'm in the planning stage of my house to be built in Phala Beach, Ban Chang, Rayong. The house will be about 140 to 150 square meters. Single story bungalow 2 bedroom, 2 bath living room/dining area. Detached car parking but close to house. Land size is 365tw.

I have a copy of Chief Architect that I use to build different floor plans that might suit our need. Mrs. Hino has decided on one floor plan based on the Chinese foong shuei philosophy. You know about this I think.

So now we have a basic floorplan and now I need to find an architect we can work with that can take our floorplan and our ideas of the exterior look and show us this in 3D on a PC.

I am trying to contact one man named "Fluke." I read about him here on TD. BUt if anyone can recommend another good architect in this area please let me know.

have a look at google Sketch up. It is a free download and 3d drawings are easier than autocad etc.
You could do this yourself.

I'm still looking for arch info I previously indicated I had on file somewhere. I'll give it a good for look this evening.

I had plans made from Thailand House (yahoo/google search: Thai house plans) that included 3D renderiings and I am very satisfied with the quick results.They made finished construction drawings, signed by Structural Engineer that made it easy to get the building permit. Very professional and easy to deal with. Although I never met any of the Architects or Engineers they responded to my emails and requests the same day. I highly recommend them to anyone wanting professional house plans and 3D renderings. The plans were finished in both Thai & English (dimensions also metric & english)....

I made contact with a nice young man that I read about here on TD.

We spoke in person yesterday and he will make a design proposal to us within 2 weeks. If we like his work and ideas then we will commence with a contract for a set of plans.

I will keep the idea you posted in case this man cannot deliver what we need. But already on the first sitting with him I feel good about what he can do.

Here's an update on my need for an architect.

The young man and his business partner came to our place last Sunday and we spent about 4 hours in discussion and eating and came to an agreement . He will make our plan based on my floorplan ideas. I am pleased with this man and his partner and I believe they can provide a building plan that we need. I hope to post that result in a month or two when we finalize the designs.

How much did they want for detailing your design ??

Actually this Arch is capable of 3D rendering but not of the high quality you might see in a property office or sales office for a project. So in his presentation to us it is adequate for us for the single story bungalow we are planning. These renderings were part of his overall cost to us. The general idea is we wanted to see a reasonably clear representation of our ideas before we build.
If you are familiar with 3D rendering from the Chief Architect software, his rendering is very similar.

All of the houses I have designed has been completed using software I brought for about 400 Baht. Chief Achitect or Punch home designs in my opinion do the job.

I then hand these plans and 3D rendered prints to the building permission people and they use my plans to complete the building permission drawings.

No need to employ any outside designers IMO.

I have to wonder how simple or complex these designs are ??

Do the town guys actually get all the design ideas conveyed accurately enough for the builders to know exactly what you want and build it the way it is supposed to be built and look ?

I have heard of thai guys doing up your own designs for any amounts from 10k to 50k, but I am wondering what you get for this, is it a full set of working blue prints ? is it in english as well, not required of you read thai obviously, but I do not and on the last house we had a problem where the carport was a spare room in thai on the plans and obviously I did not see this until it was being constructed.....other problems as well same situation.

well, theoretically, the house plans should be enough for the builder to build the house without any more input

practically, of course, you (and/or your architect) will need to clear up all sorts of misunderstandings as the building progresses

and, naturally, you will want to change some things as you find that things are not quite what you expected

the joys of building

In my case I started with Chief and got to a point of an acceptable floorplan, roof style and exterior look and then turned to the architect and his eye for the details we want to see and the final look. He also uses a certified civil engineer for the structural stuff. I am in no way shape or form able to design a safe structure and rely on the schooled pros to do this.

It all depends on what you agree upon. Different phases as the project design goes further into details.
Just remember that no Thai customer understands what's the point of hiring and paying an architect. So, in Thai, architects usually earn their lives with the commissions they get from the contractors, not from their designs.
