Styrene tiles on the outside of buildings

Saw something interesting here over the last few weeks - forgot to take photos though

A couple of local hotels are being done up. One of the things that was done to them were what looks like polystyrene or similare tiles place on the outside of the hotels.

About 1m x 0.75m in size maybe a two inches thick.

The placed them on the outside of the walls like tiles - no idea how they bonded them. Then added a layer of what looks like normal cement and smoothed it over.

Is this done in Thailand? Looks like a good way of insulating a house.

I utilised this form of construction in this house I built 30 years ago, Low thermal mass, good insulator, cheap, should be used more often.

I'd never seen it done until here. Makes sense.

Maybe the building master and owner of the site will know about it's use here.

    Seems so simple.

I wouldn't want to be inside if a fire broke out but otherwise it sounds like a good idea.

I used a polystyrene liner in an old Vistorian brick house in the UK. Even the 1mm covering made a huge amount of difference, so a couple of inches would be wonderful I would've thought.

I've seen it used in the UK a bit and they even use PS 'lego' which is filled with concrete to make very sturdy & efficient walls.

Because Foam has almost no structural strength, it really needs a wood framed building to support it, not many here .

What they were doing here was whacking it on the outside of already built hotels, concrete ones. So the structure is already there.

This is a common building practice in the US. Used in homes and large buildings not just for insulationing purposes but for aesthetics features as well.

NY NY Las Vegas Casino what you see is mostly foam.
