Some minor house repairs.... or so I thought!

The false ceiling on the carport had some mold growing, (sorry no pics) so I asked the landlord to send someone around to sort it out.

A couple of hours later, I unsuspectingly arrived home to a construction site, front and back, both floors of the house, they've decided to replace all.

Original site of mold on carport...

my smoking area, gone is the light and fan, so I cannot read the paper in the mornings while have a ciggie

scaffolding in the back of the house...

and scaffolding in the front yard also, not sure how long this is gonna take, they've been at it half a week already.

Looks like a case of the large hammer, small nut. At least you get some new floors but I hope that they don't up your rent.

it is still on going. I recently found out that these workers get paid for the job plus a daily allowance.....

It is not rocket science is it? Surely the landlord thought to give them a maximum timeframe to complete the job in.

^ No, sounds like that they will make it last as long as they can. I appreciate that's probably not what you want to hear. Have you spoken to the said Landlord about it. Could you say your Mum is coming and that She has trouble sleeping?

honestly I could not make this up.

now they have begun entirely relandscaping the front and back gardens, and a team has started on the inside upstairs, i think they are rebuilding the attic or something (I havent gone upstairs to look yet.)

Perhaps my landlord misunderstood me, when i asked her to fix the single damp patch in the carport, she must have thought i said could she rebuild the entire house or something....

Hmm... being model tennents has it's downside sometimes. Perhaps the workers have misunderstood just how much they are going to get paid. Are they all the Landlords familly?

    Its driving me nuts...

bang crash smash, the feckers painted all the windows without taping them up, so now the whole day they have been scraping razor blades up and down the windows to remove the paint marks.

Back doors are off their hinges, they shaved the bottoms of them and oiled the hinges.

The backyard cage bars have been scraped clean and repainted.

God knows what is next, I'm heading O/S for two weeks and hoping they are finished when I get back.

Jeez the landlord must love you.
What's it all going to cost?
How much rent do you pay?
It might be a pain in the ass now but you're house is getting rebuilt/redecorated etc. etc.
The last time I rented I had to fight for weeks to get a roof leak fixed. It was leaking through the roof, through the false ceiling onto our bloody bed!

Still I think you've got it right, bugger off for a few weeks (untill it's finished).
    Good luck.

^ Very good point. The place is unliveable, at least some contribution. Then again, maybe the rent is really low anyway. Could be a good time to get extras added.

well she did see me half naked one morning when she just wandered into my house (at about 7.00am) when i didn't answer the door. (was unlocked cos i'd picked up the morning paper) she was just 'in the area' and wanted to drop over and see if everything was ok.

Me personally, not a cent, work pays. but since it is a long way out of the centre of Jakarta, not that much relatively speaking.

    I am.

Expect the rent has already been paid for this year, in Indo it is quite common to have to pay the rent one or two years in advance, I've just signed on again, so I guess she felt obliged to fix a few things up.

Last I saw they had taken all the doors off the hinges and actually replaced them all with new hinges.

They were also redrilling the holes in the floors for the dead locks.
