It's not uncommon for houses and condos to be built without the kitchen being finished. That way you can add fixtures that meet your needs.

The house I'm in is over 10 years old and still doesn't have a kitchen aside from an old fridge. We just eat out every meal.

Don't know... I think it's 220 odd square metres though.

Does that make it about 660 square feet??

Maths, is one of my not very strong points Randy.

I'm going with straight metres rather than square ones I guess.

Are you building an indoor or outdoor kitchen?

We've got an indoor bit, for the microwave, toaster etc... and then an outdoor bit for the cooking. Works quite well.

We are building an indoor one, leading off from what is now the dining room.

Gets a bit wet up here in a couple of months time, pretty squally too, I'm also paranoid about rodents and snakes.

Well, the outdoor bit is kinda half in and half out, but it gets a good breeze through, so it doesn't get too hot or smelly.

CMN i've seen your place, it's on about maybe 50 sq wa (~200sq m or 2200 sq ft) and the house is about 1000 - 1100 Sq ft. (100 sq m 25 sq wa) nice house really. Think you got a great deal. In an almost coutry setting but close to it all.

    Cheers Frank.

I live in the bloody place but you know more about it thatn i do.
We actually paid for a 50 sq wah plot.
Unfortunately it was an estimate (rip off) whichever way you look at it and we ended up paying an extra 7,000 baht per sq wah over 50 sq wah, can't remember exactly how much over as it was at a time when money was pouring through me and I was all pissed off.
Will check the deeds later, but you might be right.
It might be closer to 53 sq wah.

    2.5 rai ~= 1 acre
    .40 acre ~= 1 rai
    1 rai = 400 Sq wa
    1 sq wa ~= 4 sq m
    1 sq m ~=10.8 sq ft

    Uh, yeah, thanks.
    I think
I did do the math for the acre. long tme ago I looked acre up the onlydef I could fnd was "An area 208 ft by 208 ft" That I remembered but ever time, since then, I gotta do the fuckin math. Why couldn't the just come out an' say, "43,264 sq ft?"
'Course woulda never remembered that although it is close to my "b" number.

The units of land measurement in Thailand are the Wah, Ngan, and Rai.

Conversion factors between Thai measurements and Metric measurements are:

    1 Wah = 2 meters
    1 square Wah = 4 square meters
    100 square Wah = 400 square meters = 1 Ngan
    100 square meters = 1076.391 square feet
    4 Ngan = 1 Rai = 1,600 square metres

Conversion factors between Thai measurements, meters and acres are:

    1 Acre = 2.529285 Rai (approximately) = 10 Ngan = 1,000 Talang Wah = 4,046.8561 Square Metres = 42,772 Square Feet = 4840 Square Yards

    1 hectare = 10,000 square meters = 2.471 acres = 6.25 Rai (approximately)

    1 Ngan = 100 Talang Wah= 400 Square Metres = 4,277 Square Feet

    1 Rai = 4 Ngan = 400 Talang Wah = 1,600 Square Metres = 17,109 Square feet

Thanks CMN and others ... 2200 square feet is a good size house. The first house I built up in Phichit is about 1500 sq ft I'd say and I know I need something a little bigger. I don't want to spend more than 1.5 million though on this next one so I might have to go with something smaller to get everything I want and need on the inside.

I really like the look of yours CMN.

Myself, I already have the land 8 rai w/ 1 rai filled in well above surrounding area. I want to build a largish single story home w/ a wall all around the 1 rai (rest I'll have someone build a bamboo fence). How much should I plan on spending for something w/ q-blocks steel roof structure insulation parkay floors and good (but not lavash) bathroom fixtures two bathooms (only one w/ big basan thai style and shower) two bedroom one extra large and one walk in closet in large bedroom? Also, my wifes father is a compenent builder but I wouldn't give the whole project to him as he is more of a ban nok builder and does work at regular projects in the big city but probably labor or just above. Anyway, he would know certain skilled people to do the work for each step required and I'll let him do the stuff he can handle. So how much?

    Spliff,

Sorry, no pictures. My old lady built it unsupervised so I wasn't there to see it built or take pictures. That house started Dec 01, 2003 and was finished in April 2004. It's just a little square bungalow in the middle of a bunch of tin shacks.
