I dont understand the purpose ??

Ok - mebbe some u builder types can explain for me....

the pic is a house that just got built on a small sub soi near my place - they've built a 3 story house - all well and good - but what is the purpose of the concrete patio section?

why not pave it ? or decorate with some plants etc ? a spot for a spa or small swimming pool?

it appears to be a total waste of space!

The edges of the whole roof are inboard of the edge of the building, that would imply that there is a walkway about 2 metres wide around the whole of the roof.

My guess would be that it gets used for hanging clothes out. The bit sticking out at the back could be used to mount aircon units, looks like there are some there already.
    Lord, deliver us from e-mail.

They'll probably use it for live sex parties and paganistic rituals. These thais are right perverted sadistic bastards and you'll have a perfect view of it all.

    Weird.
That looks like a tiled, pitched roof has been built over a flat concrete roof but with no headroom under it.
Or are my eyes failing me ?

I've seen it here and elsewhere. It just shades the concrete slab (ie: heat sink) in an attempt to keep the place cool. The false roof can be lightweight and doesn't have to be waterproof. We stayed in a hotel in Koh Chang that was built this way.

Actually, it has been paved, with concrete.

I ain't a builder but in BKK I have learned that according to a rather vague and constantly changing building code, some homes can only build so high depending upon their locations. Therefore, many will build a large temporary patio in hopes of eventually building on. TIT.

Then again, maybe the homeowners want to play tennis!

I like that idea. Mainly because my designs for the new house will have a similar layout. That is, a floating roof (to keep the heat off), and a flat roof like that one. At least my one will have a use, we will put a small pool there. No leaves falling in, privacy (except from perves like you!!) and less mossies.
    I have reported your post
