    How much was your house?

Ok this'll probably end up being a 'my cocker is bigger than yours' type thing.

But just out of interest, how much did it cost to build your house?

    Or buy one?

I'm yet to buy my house here but when I do it'll prolly won't be more than a mill baht thing (maybe even less) with no neighbours and a few rai of land to look over. 2 or 3 bedrooms, 1 or 2 bathrooms, living room, kitchen and that'll keep me happy. With 2 balconies if I design it myself.

Around a mill with 1 or 2 hundred K on a piece of land to watch over while drinking scotch on my balcony.

Could be done within the budget you state. Depends a lot on where the land is to be, living area of the house and style (local or western).

Yeh, I reckon the cost of my ridiculous pile is irrelevant to this thread.

I'm having a place built near Ubon for wifes mum to live in, owned by wife. She already owns the land, so no cost factor there.

3 B/R fairly standard bungalow. Anticipated cost- 750K. 'Secret' budget allocation- 850K. Anything above that she pays.

^ I would appreciate it. I am totally ignorant of the building trade, and frankly my only credible third party source of 'what things should cost' is TD.

    Ours was free.

We paid 4million for a large plot of river front land, and when we cleared teh overgrown orchard that was on half of the land we found a very servicable house.

Added to which, because nobody knew the house was there when until we clear the 'jungle' we avoided paying tax on the house during the land transfer...

One Teakdoor member knows and is sworn to secrecy.

Actually, I' in Saudi right now and not likely to live there for at least another 3 or 4 years, but its out of the Farang loop and I like it that way (Misserable gitt that I am).

The first house I had built was on land that my wife owned. We had it built for 400,000 baht. It had a pretty big sitting room, 2 bedrooms, a small kitchen and one bath. We had 3 aircons and hot water in the toilet. It was nothing special, but we did not need much really. It was in Isaan and her brothers and some workers built it for us.

It was on 20 rai that her grandmother had left her when she died.

Yes, very cozy and quiet. Your budget of 1.6M (total with the secret one) should get you something very similar. The roofing and flooring (all hardwood) were quite pricey so you should be able to get within your budget with less expensive flooring and roof tiles. I designed it myself and was on site during the entire build time. This makes a big difference in the end cost.

Sorry. Misunderstood. Still Ok though. You will be able to have something nice for that. Look to have a plan of about 110 m2.

    B2,300! Sheet metal is expensive.

Ok, here is the real answer. More than I wanted to and less than I really wanted to build.

We have a condo here in BKK.
We have a home here in BKK.
    We have D & G Resort.

What is all of it worth? Not a damn, if nobody wants to pay the asking price.

    ^ good answer.

I've already showed mine on TD. You'll find it it you care to, it's not really important.
