Does anyone know if I can get a list of prices for common building materials such as bricks, blocks, plywood, cement and the such from somewhere. thanks.

no such list unfortuneately, no building suppliers do price lists of basic items, plus if the stuff was priced it would make it nigh on impossible for them to overcharge

I think the company that makes the thermo blocks have prices on their web site (Q-Con ???) but I don't know if you can buy from them directly. I'll look for the link tonight.

Then how do you estimate the cost of construction? Is there certain about percentage add for price gauging?

we price per meter on everything, ie brick work and rendering at say 700baht per square meter, glass work about 1,300baht per sq met etc etc etc etc etc.

A few days ago I was talking to a friend here in the UK, who has just had a new drive laid in concrete.

He explained that instead of using steel reinforcement the drive had been laid with concrete that had fibre added to it. Cost was 10% greater than conventional pre-mix, but you obviously save on the steeelwork.

A question for DD I expect:

Is this type of concrete available in LOS and if it is how does the price compare?

No it isnt, I believe they use fibreglass strands, we have done this recently with a swimming pool here, but it isn't a normal thing here in Thailand.

Good but not pricey dont go together, cheapest teak doors are in chachansao, but they are crap and not seasoned enough.
Ok ones can be bought on sukimvit opposite the bkk pattaya hospital.

Most discount they ever give is a max of 10 percent

This is very interesting, and I am very happy to find this web site. I have seen around the CPAC trucks in my recent travels.

Does any one know how to order, and how to get a price on a particular sprcification of concrete. I want to get some 6.5Mpa to do some proper sized beams.

This brings me to my next question please: Is there some building code somewhere where you cannot have a span loaded beam of more than 3m ? Every building I see here only has span beams limited to 3m.

I want to build a house, and I was planning like I did in many places in China to pre-stress cast in situ beams of 9m. Does any one know if that is ok with the building code or do the local trades not know how to build a decent concrete beam ?

I assume you mean flex strength and not compressive.

Sorry, I am new, so feel free to correct me. I am reading from the Building Code I use. 6.5 MPA Compressive with 3K x5 Kg flex strength will do the job.

I was planning on passing 3 sets of 5x5 mm Steel cable pulled to 3K kg strain, to pre-stress the cement.

So to visualise it, inside the standard 200x200 box of reo I will pass 3 sets of cables. each set is 5 sets of 5mm steel cable, each set tensioned to 3,000 kg. When the batch is cured, removing the bracing, therefore adding in theory 15k Kg of tensile strength. This is for the beams that I was expecting to be 300x300mm in size.

I know the solution is over engineered, and the strength of the "Box" can take the strain for normal strain, however, I wanted to put a pool table and a Jacuzzi on the upper floor.

Can I post some engineering drawings ?

Ok I aint no ce but that beam would flex too much over 8 meters, ie you would get cracking if people jumped up and down on the second floor, also the compressive is always higher than the flex I believe, so it would probably be too weak to start off with.

You can get precast, but make sure the steel used with them is of the right gauge=strength for the purpose. One of the few things where I wouldn't cut corners.
