    House Remodel, BKK

Looking for a contractor or craftsmen to remodel a small old house in BKK. Looking for a job? Know someone reliable? Wife's bro got a bid for 1 million baht from a contractor! I have been in construction for 32 years and could probably build it from scratch for that. Something doesn't add up. Where can we get some reliable help? I would do it but the time to get set up with tools and materials, transportation would be hard. The roof seems fine. The walls are eaten up by bugs. Plumbing and wire ok.

I assume that if the walls are eaten by bugs that it is mainly a wooden house, wood is damn expensive here, last year we built a teak wood staircase, this only went up one floor, just to buy the unplanned wood cost 80,000baht and the structural supports for the stairs was already there.

    replacing wood stud wall

Couldn't we use tin studs, as we do regularly in commercial blds? Or use some type of cement or block?

what does look nice and is quite cheap are the top and bottom cuts from a log, ie with the bark on.

Tin studs? no idea what they are.

They have cement board here but it would make the place look like a thai slum dwelling in my opinion.

    contractors

I guess we can just get more bids and see what the proposals are.
In commercial blds, hospitals, hotels etc we don't use wood studs anymore. Light weight metal ones are standard now. Naturally I won't even think of introducing anything not standard there. Thanks. kc
