Luigi...lol but... I have been taking the advanced 'sleeping with one eye open' courses here in Dubai, but probably not needed cos' nothing ever happens to Farangs here does it!!?

Seriously, that 'she land / me house' arrangement works for US but as has been mentioned here already, its an individuals decision based on all the factors of that house purchase / build + personal circumstances.

I know others have done it in the past but... isn't that 'Thai company but i control everything through letters of authority' or whatever (in other words - finding a way to defeat Thai law) actually illegal and likely to be dissolved leaving you with no protection, if it ever went to court? I don't think I would risk anything down that route...

I doubt if his partner is Thai.

If she were she would already have told him not to consider investing in Samui...or he would already have invested in Samui.

The old adage, only invest in Thailand that you can walk away from, is quite wise.

If you can't walk away from it peacefully: rent.

2 non Thais trying to buy a holiday home illegally through a Thai 'friend'.

Just buy the house for your friend and ask if you can stay there from time to time.

Ffs rent, or buy a condo, and stop being so silly.

Yes. I know your better half is Thai. Was referring to th OPs better half.
Two foreigners can lease land from a Thai landowner. The way to go all legal. Essentially what you have with your wife.

Chapman ..... Captain Nemo came at you a bit strong but I think he did so because you have quite an abrasive style of phrasing a request for help .

You should read lots of the build threads in this Construction forum . LOTS of them . They are not about construction .
They are about construction and humour and stupidness and real genuine good advice . Find Roobarb and read his stuff .
    Find Bettyboo . Find terp80 and Komen . Read mine . Don't read Dillinger . Whatever you do - don't read Dillinger . Read JPPR2 .
They will not teach you anything about what you want to do .

Far more valuable - they will teach you what not to do . Read 20 stories before you do anything .

When I read what you have written you don't seem to be making a genuine enquiry .
You read more like a troll ...... because you read like you are ignoring people's experience and you are setting up for an expensive fail .

You should at least remember this - people you don't trust cannot hurt you .
It's the people that you trust who can do the damage.

^ That's all very good advice and should be taken to heart.

I have 4 more days looking at property in Samui before flying home to think of our next move.
We have a good Thai friend, but I am sure plenty have been burned over the years. As long as we are legally protected as far as possible we are happy. If not we simply won’t invest our here, and continue to rent.
We simply love this country and wouldn’t want to invest elsewhere (other than at home)
Isn't Samui choking in it's own rubbish, not to mention tourists ?

When ya look at pictures like this ya gota take on board that this stuff is washed in by monsoon or off season on shore winds.

Asia is a fookin shit house with filthy seas and when the season changes to on shore winds this happens every where.

In high season the beaches are spotless because the shit is blown off shore.

In Bali Kuta beach is a festering toilet for 3 months of the year but glorious the other months.

    All relevant innit.

    Asians don't care .
    They simply don't care .
We had Thai visitors who had twin boys aged about 4 . I went across the road to the shop - bought some Magnums and ice blocks for the twins .
Gave the boys their ice blocks . They walked away ... pulled off the paper sleeves ... dropped them on the ground and started on the ice blocks .
    I did a VERY loud " OYY !!! " .
They turned . I beckoned them . They looked at the Thais . The Thais told them go to me . I pointed at the boys , pointed at the papers , pointed at a bin.
They turned to the Thais - who told them to do as I said . Meekly and utterly confused they picked them up and put them in the bin .

    They've never done that before.

Now all the Thais are very careful around me .... and think I'm a bit of a grumpy farang .

And I think they are pigs.
