    TD

Firstly I just went and had a look at the Museum of the Future online and it is awesome.

Secondly I am wondering how the poles for the staircase handrails are fixed into position.
Is there a hole in the bottom of the post that is fitted over a piece of steel that is set into the concrete?
How is the pole fixed to that if that is how it is done?

    Cheers

Yeah ootai... there's some good MOTF info including some pretty good vids. Worth a look for a better insight.

lol I wondered the same as you, so let me find out 'n' report back (unless any builders on here would care to jump in with the answer...!?)

Not obvious from the pic, but i assume he's drilled the uprights and slotted them onto rebar and glued. I have to say, and it's me picky nature (so apologies) but he's got some facing out that seem to have dark stain or grain imperfections which if you spun the 180 would not show. Just sayin as it'd do me nut every time i approached the stairs.

TD, i'm sure it'll all be fine but to cover the black marks at the bottom of the uprights on the pics the stain/varnish is gonna have to be that gloop they paint on which looks like caramel - very heavy and you don't see the wood beneath.

Great thread, reminds me of old monkeys place in a way.
I must say I've learned alot through threads like this.
You see we had a place built a while back and although it's no where near complete you guys building recently give me hope that the job can be done by locals to a world wide standard.

I've been searching the web on development in Laos and found a few projects ongoing. These are not the farmhouse I've grown to love but some major projects. If the actual build reflects the dream of the builders then they will be quite the accomplishment as is yours thus far.

    Good luck with it all...

    Hey..Mr.Fish&Co.... welcome back!!

Yeah, you know though, that we never quite 'finish' housing projects? There is always 'just one more thing' to do!

My milestone is getting this one into a state where we can move in to it and live there but there will still be construction work even after that.

Thanks for the good luck wishes...

Yeah, funny that. I got say that i have probably 4 years til i finish but some weeks when you spend as much time sorting out muppets as you do your own job you start to think maybe i'll move the retirement slider a little to the left. I have a feeling the closer i get, the harder its gonna get to resist the urge to throw it in.

For you having the house must be an added frustration. Just keep your eyes on the prize.

Having that house there n me here is a real incentive to chuck it in NOW.

I don't need to be here, I here cos I want to be here its an interesting project but , i don't suffer fools gladly, never have and the guy way above me is a .. F O O L. a self-centred, egotistic, loner with zero idea about team-building, too much time on his hands and who gotta have the last word. The crazy thing is... everyone warned me what a twat he was when i started but i gave the benefit of doubt and actually supported n stuck up for him for 9 months. jeez was i wrong about that...

You can always spot the person with too much time on his hands cos there's guilt and he gotta go round telling everyone how 'busy' he is all the time.

This is not like me at all. I really have got to stop sitting on the fence....

    OK... back to the thread!

Looking real good TD, I finally made it to the LOS, paid off all the kin, amazing how they all have gas money to get here but none to get home.
Question on the stair posts, are they going to be exposed to the weather and if so is there a lot of upkeep?
Norton I'll get in touch when I get caught up.

Hey there Dennis... welcome back to the thread and welcome back to Thailand!

That gas money is a given, if where they want to stay is better than where they should go back to.

A high wall, solid gates, CCTV entry and a crocodile inside are all essential.

So.. those stair posts? They have been treated for termite control, but of course, anything out in the elements will eventually suffer, so there will surely be upkeep,

But I will be jobless with time on my hands (you can't lounge around in the pool with a beer all day every day) so i can do it!

Seriously, yes...houses need maintenance same as anything. we will just have to make a plan for that and other areas too.

Just remind me cos i am getting old n i think Alzheimer's is setting in, where are you based in Thailand?

Hey TD have you discovered how the stair handrail posts are attached to the stairs yet?
Or are you too busy like your boss?
    You know what curiosity does.
