No problem with expansion here. When laid, they left a small gap between wall and first board. Base board covers the gap. Reckon they will do same on TD mansion. Had problem with moisture getting into concrete next to bathroom. 2 boards buckled and had to be repaired.

    Thanks for the confirmation, Norton.

I think K.Pot is leaving the Mae Daeng flooring until after he fits those folding doors for the bedroom, dining room and living room.

In any case, his team are currently on with floor tiling - dressing room and Buddha room completed so far.

If the concrete floor hasn't properly dried up, and not being aged for more than a month (depends on the momentary season) it can bring some problem.

A good precaution is to leave the wood in that room for a month or so - and possibly spread it up close to the floor, not only in a big pile - for equalizing the wood moisture to the floor moisture and to the area humidity. It can be measured at both.

Remember I told the painter his 'effort' was only 85% and I knew he could do better...?

    well.. straight after, this happened...

(no he didn't burn the place down 'n take his ball home)

Yes... he masked up around the offending uprights and applied another base coat - i.e. started again

Then he started building up the colour again, developing the grain as before

This is not a 5-minute process. each new layer compliments the previous...

There was a bit round the side too...

The colour finally built back up

TD, the painted concrete timber effect is going to look stunning when the whole place is done, definitely going to be worth the extra effort and expense.

    it's a tower, Mike... just a funny-looking one

No.. its the Museum of the Future, Dubai's 3rd Iconic building after Burj Khlifa and Burj Al Arab.

Its actually an exhibition centre, and 'incubator' for ideas of the future. well... at least that's what the blurb says.

Cant tell you what will be in it yet 'cos... well... thats in the future!

Gotta say that many of us move through our lives leaving little imprint on the future aside from our children, as a builder you'll leave quite a few large imprints by the looks of it. Must be easy on the CV, just take the pictures along.

I got a few yes, both in UK and here.

I was involved in the Aldar HQ building on Al Raha Beach mega project 10 years ago.

(that round glass building, which was the first of its kind in the world at the time)

As a photographer, you bet i have a 'few' snaps here an' there!

Just thinking the same, yet they need to be fashioned up a bit.

Being of the old school romantic type, I would've opted for wood.
    Nonetheless. Neither here or there.

    Starting to come together, TD.
Project coming to an end soon, yes?

Guess you'll have to enact another.
    Keeps ya outta trouble.

    haha...Nowhere near the 'end' yet!!

Just nearing completion of something habitable.

As I mentioned before, this is only stage 1 and 2

    stage 1 - zone 1
    stage 2 - zone 2

    stage 3 - boundary wall
    stage 3 - swimming pool
    stage 5 - zone 3
stage 6 - double car port

And all that's before we even think about the resort on land no.1!!

Rest assured... I got plenty to do, and I'm still in UAE and not even there yet
