Looks good, what's next, the roof?
Looks good, what's next, the roof?
Yeah, Dennis, the roof it is.
He will have to do the beams around the top of those columns first, of course, and then the roof - this is a biggie.
We will have to wait for the revelers to return to the task in hand though (and sober up)
All that to come on the Chonburi building epic that is 'TD and Princess Joy's Thai house build'!!
See you all at the start of Stage 4...
Well... the good news is, K.Pot is back on the site already after rounding up the Number 1 build team from their celebrationssssssss.
And... he's not even received the stage 3 payment yet (its 'in transit' thought the banking system... not too bad usually takes bout 3 days)
so... all being well, pictures again from tomorrow! Stage 4 is underway...
Excellent TD, looking forward to stage 4 , bring it on.
Work starts on the Sala
stair tread steel
From sala up to first floor of the house
Prepping for the stairs from ground up to sala
By the time I get back to Thailand next month, there will be a stair access up to the first floor, no climbing ladders for me....!
LOL you are not far wrong Norton, its been a hard life for me, wheeling the barrow load of dollars that is my salary each month to the bank, my knees are shot.
I have planned ahead though... the line up of the window openings tween office and master bedroom corridor lend itself to the installation of a small goo...people lift at a later stage.
Hopefully I don't need that any time soon... I'm in practice anyway.. climbing 7 flights of scaffold stairs every day at work. I clock up 'tween 5 and 7 KM a day walking the project plus another 1.5km between the apartment and the Dubai Metro.
Hi David... yeh.. Dubai metro is actually one of the city's success stories - cheap, clean , punctual, driverless, regular.
Sure can beat the traffic with it - it costs me 5AED each way and takes 17 minutes station to station. The same car trip would cost mt 8AED each way on SALIK (the Dubai road toll) and god knows how long in the traffic.
In fact, I worked out that it would take longer in a car to exit my worksite and drive round the block to get onto Sheikh Zayed Road (main route through Dubai) than it would take me to walk to the Emirates Towers Station, board and ride the metro to SharafDG (my stop) and walk home. Its a no-brainer if the metro stop is near you.
Dubai's traffic problem increases almost monthly as the city struggles to keep up with the infrastructure. The road layout in Dubai is not the best... as any newcomer will tell you... you miss a turning or roundabout... its a 15 KM detour to get back to where you wanted to go!!
Compare Dubai roads to Abu Dhabi - there is no comparison. Abu Dhabi has the American-style grid system so its easy to get round and any missed turn is a simple drive round the next block - easy.
Even starting with a blank paper, as a lot of the ME cities did, they can still get it oh so wrong. The traffic volume has simply overtaken Dubai and its now playing a belated catch up.
Dunno if they will ever get in front of it again.....
PS, David... I could do a 'thread' on the metro but... you think anyone would want to read it?!
Lol... its a train goes up n down the track!
I guess i could do photos though...
Sala work part 2
Metal frame in place and spacers fitted
OK...you tell me... WTF is this piece!!?
long shot showing the stairs onto the Sala
...and here is a better view looking down from the first floor.
Will the steps be set at western size or cant walk up or down Thai dimensions...
Gottcha...good idea...
I checked with the builder - 260mm so... OK.
I have been told I have feet like a ballerina, but they might have been distracted by the tutu and tights I was wearing at the time....
(the things you have to do in those Client meetings... !!)
OK ... here's a shot of the Sala stairs poured. check out HIS ballerina feet... I think I will be OK walking up n down here!
Good to see that vibro was not just for show on the first day...
Hi TD , no we have rescheduled , life gets complicated.
Mother is 92 and going down hill fast. Doesn't like foreigners ! Wouldn't come to my wedding (7 yrs ago ) and doesn't want to see my wife, ever again.
She has become a silly old bat , but what can I do, its my mother. I go shopping for her once a week.
I should just walk away but she is on her last legs and I know if I leave now it would hurt a lot, and because she bought me into this world I'm going to maintain the status quo, but the end of this year I will be back in LOS, next year we need to be building. Lets be serious non of us have too long left anyhow, I reckon about 15 to 20 yrs max !
My wife is fantastic and fully supports me, brilliant little lady.
Too old to Rock 'N' Roll :
Too young to Die !
I was looking forward to rebuilding the Teak house on stilts but the wife doesn't want to. The wife wants a 1 bedroom bungalow ? I said we should have 2 bedrooms for visitors but she said No, they can sleep on the floor ???
But she also said that, that part of the land was one of her sisters, ours is further down, nearer to the road .
The wife wants a 1 bedroom bungalow ? I said we should have 2 bedrooms for visitors but she said No, they can sleep on the floor ???
DM your wife's opposite mine, she wanted a bedroom for for each family member, I said it wasn't going to happen, we settled on an extra bedroom on the main floor we'll be up on 2nd floor, until I can't climb the stairs then it will be our bedroom.
Yeah I can relate to this too Dennis...when I was visioning the house we intended to build of course PJ and I spoke about it a lot - Buddha room this, big open area that, gym for me, outside kitchen for her etc etc etc..
Plans were drawn up and approved. Builder selected. We started the build, with not a squeak from PJ...
... now we are well into the build and the footprint is established... she mentioned that she never wanted a big place and would be happy with a one bed dwelling!!!
Yeah right good timing!!
Sounds good with no chance to go back and really .... she never wanted to go back.. just wanted to sound good!! In the same convo she's talking about having parties under the house and inviting our friends to the cinema, pool, etc .
hmmmm....hmmmmmmmmmm!
