    2nd hand wood

What is the cost of second hand wood or an old wooden house?

The missus was rabbiting on about buying wood from the amphur office from old houses or to even buy an old house and have it taken down and rebuilt.

Sounds like a great idea to me.

    Any ideas.

check out Dr Andy's house building thread.
can't remember if he mentioned a cost.

he bought a wooden house, dismantled it and reassemble it.
the cost would depend on the type of wood I suppose.

    Yup had a read.

I estimated it at about 400k all in last night, depending on what 'friends' the missus has that can do things on the cheap.

I need to have a proper look at the plot of land and see what I think. There was meant to be a plot next to it with a house ready for sale for 600 or 700k so have to wait until I have a look.

there's a 220 sq wah plot up near the place I'm moving to with a brand new teak house built on it, nice looking thing.
800,00 baht for land and house.
    will take some pics later.
not much use to you since you don't live in chiangmai, but shows how cheaply it can be done.

    Fuck man

Land in Chacheongsao is extortionate. 1 rai near Carrefourre is 1.5m with nothing done (swamp)to it upto 5mil for it being filled and drained.

Lot of people got rich there in the last few years selling off their land.

the land up at our new place is around 1,500 a sq wah as opposed to 7,000 where I'm living now and upwards of 12,000 in the city.

THere is land out near the new airport which was allegedly going for 30m a rai. NOt sure if that was true.

The 5 rai house and garden that I rented had been valued at 30m plus for the land. Right by the river. probably more now.

Be interesting to see if the missus can make some money on this land. She was given a tip from the her friends in the land office that it was going up for sale. Similar plots with a house a little closer to the city are clearing upward of 2mil+ for 70wah plots.

    Mental isn't it.

When I first got there it was a crappy town. Got built up quickly.

Close to BKK for commuting. Close to the airport.

Our neighbours did that. Reassembled this beautiful old teak house. it was quite interesting watching them bring in the bits and pieces when they were doing it.

No idea of the cost though sorry, it made such a racket while being done and ruined so many of my weekend lie-ins I don't tlak to the fockers anymore!!

    thanks for the link!

I think the question about cost is a bit like "how long is a piece of string?"

we saw houses from 30K up to 1.3million!! the first was low quality wood and rotten, the last was an amazing solid teak house with double flooring planks, each over 50cm wide, about twenty massive poles etc etc. Unfortunately, it was way up near Burmah and getting wood from there to CM would be a dangerous business. Even with the correct paperwork, the army can confiscate the whole lot!

so you just have to look at a few houses, maybe with an expert, and try to work out the best value
    I have reported your post
