    Automatic Gate Openers

Has anyone had any experience with these or can recommend a particular make/brand/model?

We already have the wiring out to our gate so it would simply be a matter of purchasing and installing one - I good idea I think so when it's raining or there are screaming kids in the car no need to get out.

We have the sort of gate that's on rollers (opens by sliding sideways) so I assume it would have to be one of those chain-driven jobies.

Anyways, any info or advce would be appreciated.

I enquired about this when I first bought my house...there's a place near me that does it but that won't be much good to you Ant...about 35k to install...couldn't justify the expense for the odd time that my wife has to use an umbrella to open the gate!..

I have seen them as low as 15k baht but with plastic racks which are not as good as metal racks.
I have not seen chain drive set-ups, only racks

Here are two for you :

Got to remember though when your outside and you get a powercut, your stuck outside till either you climb over or the power comes back on.

If you have small kids, the automatic opener itself may pose a hazard. Kids just love to play around with these sort of things, which is one reason we decided against having one installed.

    Guys hi,

Excellent, thanks to you all for the tips/pointers. Have to admit that power outtage wasn't something I had considered.

Yeah I thought they wouldn't be cheap - with two kids on the way very handy though I think. Plus I guess it kinda adds value to the house

No, you don't expect that to happen in Thailand

The geinuses in my neighborhood would end up using it to crack coconuts or attach a spinning blade to make a giant table saw.

Land and Houses Company uses FAAC gate openers from USA. No idea of price or location of Thailand supplier.
L&H dont use any crap to build their houses it seems so maybe they are decent quality.

Bought a house that had one installed.

Wife disconnected it within a month, as she was frequently stuck the wrong side of it, without the clicker to open it!

Ehm...... Well, no. A garden needs variety, shade and (imho) a natural look to it. All this does is reflect light/heat.

I had one. it was nice and you won't have to climb any fences if the power is out. Just go through the mandoor and you have a key to disable the auto gate and roll in manually. I miss it where I live now.....but my wife gets the gate, so it really is no more work for me!!!

Maybe she misses it more for me.
