Aerated concrete blocks

Hi. New here so please be gentle.

I am designing and building a rooftop vegetable garden in central Bangkok. Engineers have allowed 400kg/m2 on the rooftop so I am looking to use hebel or other aerated concrete type blocks preferably interlocking to create garden beds.

I am not familiar with the products available here....can you point me in the right direction for a suitable product or a company able to make precast garden beds in a similar lightweight material.

Also, seal them if outdoors as they are porous and will stain and eventually disintegrate if you don't.
You can buy a standard TOA acrylic sealant that works well at any home base for 500 odd baht.

Lots of things to consider; would seek professional advice and some input from people who have built them. Before you haul 100s of bricks up in the elevator..555

As for growing veggies assume just for a hobby or fun? Thailand’s veggies must be the most inexpensive foodstuffs available? Methinks your seedlings would fry without suitable shade or drown in the wet.? Obviously you must have considered this judging by your nick.

BTW q blocks, from what I read, absorb less water than clay..Certainly will not disintegrate..they are cement after all?

Have you considered using a dozen or so large Chinese egg pots? Then if you ever get bored with your cabbages and lettuces you can plant flowering and or fruit trees/palms and shrubs?

Actually an excellent idea and one green thumb should consider , a roof garden could become a sea of mud in the rainy season with all the problems which go with it ,cos once its there it could take a bit of getting rid of .

Unsure about the disintegrate part, I had Hebal block's ( I am sure the same as Q con ) out the back of the work shop for years, last time I used them they were as good as new ?????

Goes without saying that they require glazing - even the beloved "boc Qcon".

Personally, I don't believe I would trust any such acrylic seal - I'd go with the mortar and have done properly.
