There was an earthquake in Turkey, back in late 90's and they had the same problem with some buildings there. Although, you would think Taiwan would have higher construction standards than Turkey.

Maybe the Taiwanese used a better grade of oil can ?

Probably fake tin cans made out of card and painted metallic.

This is not a new phenomena, and was found to be a contributor to some building collapses in the last major earthquake in Taiwan in 1999.

It amazes me what lengths some construction company's will go to, to save on the cost of a few tens of cubic metres of concrete.

Some cans are stronger than others.

It was probably too expensive to fill the cans with water to make it a little less compressible

Tin packaging is an inferior product and they should have used plastic.

You got me all fired up there! I was going to start collecting cans.

Still, i could run the water through a cooling tower and keep it at about 27C

It seems they use polyestyrene insulation and fillers in the West
