Thread: Perimeter Fence - Lamphun

G'day folks,

Recently retired from OZ. Bought a run down place in Lamphun not far from misuses family.

750 sqm land almost oblong, that needs a fence.

Aussie dollar has collapsed, bit over one year ago our American friends had to pay $US1,130.00 to get $AUD1,000. NOW they must pay a bit over $US690.00 to get $AUD1,000.00.

Hence I am on a budget, a strict budget.

We have about 80 metres to fence. At first I was going to put up a chain "mesh" fence (Not chain link). 100 metres x 1.5m high is about B8,000 plus posts B100 each then labour. Can get the job done for about B12-13,000. All up.

My wonderful neighbours are using "our" land to house chickens, grow veggies etc..etc.. My wife is now spooked and wants a more substantial structure.

Do any of you know where I may get a basic structure (wall)? Without render, just plain el-cheapo brick. at least 1.5 high Around 80 metres long. And what is "potentially" the least I "could" pay.

If anyone can recommend an installer in Lamphun area I will be eternally grateful.

We are "renovating on a shoestring", not sure it is worth documenting on here as all you fellas have more money than me and will probably choose a different path.

Any "experienced" forum users got any advice in this regard? I can document the "budget build" with photo's IF it would help someone else.

I can buy TWO houses at todays prices (Aug 2015) for the price of your fence. Hence it is so far out of my league.. Must be great to be so wealthy...

I (was) hoping to build a 1.5m x80m wall for less than 20,000... seems I am dreaming. Then again my missus is "wonderwoman"....

Thaiwasanu <sp> has mesh @ 100m x 1.5 high for 8000. Mesh is defined by having squares presenting as you look at it. 100m x 1.5m weighs about 100kg.

Chain link is diamond as you look at it.

Chainlink is 2.5 times the price of mesh. Most brands are significantly stronger than "mesh".

NOTE: In your country, things may have a different "colloquial" name.

For example there are a group of "numpties" that call coriander "cilantro"... You cannot get much sillier than that :-) - (he said - joking of course....)

all you need are some spuds and youll never need to buy a Sunday Dinner again.

I'd be using the chain mesh to make a nice chicken coop.

Generally known as "tennis" fence.

How about a bamboo fence keeps out the sun as well.

Good idea. It would have to be treated to be resistant to termites, and may not last as long as brick, but definitely cheap.....which is his primary consideration.

LD I'm referring to growing the bamboo as a fence,there's a bamboo can't remember the name that doesn't spread whilst its growing and grows straight.

I did later wonder about the "keeping out the sun" bit.

Grows in a straight line ? Sounds ideal !

around our place is Cement Post and Wire,

if You wish to have Birds, Chickens Ducks or Tok Tok you will need a solid fence, Wife lost a lot of stock from Feral Dogs and Pets of the neighbors
We now only have 5 Tok's that Roost in the Rain trees

Hey "Wasp" (was hospitalised two weeks ago after some black "wasps"? stung me- 11 stings and NEVER had pain like it in my life).

Anyhow we collard the builder today and he offered a few alternatives "similar" idea to Wasp, but only two courses of bricks (not five), 30cm footings then mesh (Not chainlink) up the rest of it..... Going to give me a price tomorrow.

Again thyanks for your input, as soon as I get the OK from admin I will upload photo's of the beginnings....

May start another thread called "Shoestring Renovation" of course any and all input may help others.

Once I decide on the fence, I will abandon or close if I can figure out how - this thread.

Tell the locl wags you lost gold bangle/winning lott ticket jatukhvnt etc next to fence they'll dig you a free moat which you can fill with fish or crocs depending on whether you need sport or food

Builder rang wife, B850 for each 2.4 metres, similar to Wolf pics except no barbed wire. I supply the mesh only. 8,000 baht 100 metres, will try of course to see if they sell by the metre as only need 80.

ment to mention, any thing Wire or 'Gal' doesn't seem to last long here!

something in the Water or the soil, I just dropped off some Barb wire to the recyclers, only 5 years old, stuff will snap if I bend it,

also when the Wife built the place, She found 5 different prices for Rebar!

ask Brother in Law a Building Engineer about this, He explains there are at least 5 different qualities! not just seconds!

This is the fence3 we decided on 12,380 Baht for 80 metres inc Labour & Material

Top Job, much better then a Brick wall to look at too, just keep the growth out of it now,
