    UPVC Windows ?

    Hi all
I have just been looking at some Thai house plans and noticed they mention about being designed amongst other things for UPVC windows ,, now from a security point of view western style double glazed espangalot ? locking type windows would suit me fine ,, but I have to say on my travels in the los I have never seen them ,, so question is are they available ?? and if so at what cost ??
I will only be building a small 2 bed 2 bath jobby with the aid of the ol aircon so small windows of this type will be good if available.
If not does anyone have any tips for the best types of secure windows or is it just a case of bolting those flappy wooden ones on the inside and installing iron grates on the outside everytime you go out ?
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs

They are available because i have seen them, pretty sure there's a company that advertise on the Pattaya TV channel but i'd have thought they'd also be available throughout Thailand

    Can't help with price though

    you know how it goes.
Thinkin about that area now with all that water over there I wonder if that new underpass at the Chaiapum lights requires a submarine to negociate it ?

3 or 4 companies in Pattaya do them at least, Price? obviously depends on size and quantity of windows, a very basic ballpark figure, I had 4 sliding doors and 6 windows installed for 220,000 Baht, including fairly good quality concertina type mossie doors.

I got them fitted in my last house build, company called Finestra uPVC here in Hua Hin. I went for the high security option and I am happy with the outcome.

high security means nothing when you have glass

unless the glass is the sandwich stuff which is almost impossible to break, but expensive

maybe a set of bars on the outside as well?

Try talking to Aaron (038.378.302 or 081.762.8402) [at] EUROPVC (www.europvcwindows.com) in Pattaya. They use German engeneered steel frames on the inside of the PVC, have many types of windows and unlike aluminum framed windows/sliding doors have excellent secure locking capability. Good luck on the build.

Plenty of UPVC in Thailand. Windsor does seem the supplier of choice.

Thanks for that Sea Trav ,, thats what Im looking for I personally dont like big windows so hopefully that will keep the cost down a bit ,, I know they all have glass etc but its just about doing the best we can .
I really hate those flimsy ally windows they use in hotels , you can never close them properly , and that high security hairpin lock allways makes me larf on the patio doors ,, the gap is so big between the doors you can flip it up with a biro .
I have been checking out some of your helpfull suggestions and I am pleasently suprised this stuff is available here . As i mentioned before its onlt gonna be a 2 bed 2 bath bungalow so I dont mind spending on some good windows and doors , its not as if I am building one of these huge mansions I have seen on here .

Must get outta that habbit,, correction ( my WIFE is spending HER money ) lol well actually in truth she is , well a lot of it is anyway cheers all

yup, windows usually mean that they wull have glass in them. if a burgler wants to gain entry to a residence they will find a way. their preference though is not to make noise and/or attract attention to a break in so will not as a first choice break the glass. Aluminum framesd windows and doors typically have locks that are not secure and can easily be forced and/or pryed open.

Sliders are the worst. Easy enough to purchase add on locking mechanisms however.

They can get a screw driver underneath the sliding door and lift it off the track, IN

yup, with the aluminum frames but not with the steel frames. but as mentioned earlier, if a burgler wants in bad enough, they will get in, regardless of what type of windows/doors, and with no regard to security bars because they are only a deterant and will not stop a break in.

I opted for the sandwich type as an alternative to the ugly bars on the outside. Prior to purchasing they demonstrated the effectiveness and I could not break even with a 4 pound hammer.

I've got a job to start next month and finish this house of so I was just looking into the UPVC windows and doors, my idea is to using the folding ones that will slide right back against the wall and will open the whole house up as it is built in an L shape around the pool

^^ Sues - I think that is a good way to go. My neighbour in London was at home when she heard a loud banging noise. She went downstairs to the kitchen and switched the light on - there was an ugly drunk with a brick trying to break the glass in her window, unsuccessfully. In fact, he was so drunk he was still there when the police arrived

what do they call that glass here?
    I have reported your post

One thing I have come to realise is sliding doors and windows are not the best option for a number of reasons, but they are the cheapest!

one of the primary reasons I think is because you only get a max of 50 % of the window size as an opening. unless there are some other special designs as pointed out earlier in this thread but I think they were for doors.
