10mm cable has an ampacity exceeding 40 amperes.
230V * 40A = 9.2 kW
That is a pretty hefty load. Wouldn't want to pay that electric bill.

Bowie, we are talking about 10mm cable for mykthemin's oven. I don't know how much he uses his oven but ovens tend to be used for only a few hours a day in domestic situations.
Neverna,
I'm not following the pissing contest going on in this thread. Don't care to.
If 10mm cable is installed in a residential building it would be special purpose for a high load device such as an oven, and, yes, ovens are not constant use devices. Few ovens in my parts of Thailand - propane gas for cooking.
In Terry's defense, his opening post was good protocol in that he was commenting on the Bangkok Electric Office residential model.
As per my earlier post - Electric Code(s) exist and need to be followed for safety reasons - but, all-in-all, it can be overwhelming, the USA 2014 National Electric Code is 910 pages, 9 chapters, more than 150 articles, single spaced and not in a large easy to read format. Truly an amazing amount of regulatory criteria.
Far better left to the pros.
On a lighter note - most electricians are good electricians, the bad ones don't live too long.
Women have been around a good deal longer...and I can assure you there is still magic involved!Originally Posted by bowie
^^ I agree, Bowie. I actually asked Terry on page 1 about the electrical code/regs for Thailand. I think it would be very useful for many foreigners to know what they are or if they even exist.
Note to all: I'm not asking Terry to return to Klong Toeh head Office Electrical Department to ask them.
Perhaps Splitlid knows something about Thai electrical regulations.

Actually this thread has got totally away from the intended purpose, that being to show that house hold electrical installs are done correctly and the wiring code is correct and exactly the same as in Australia.
I'm not commenting on Dodgerland, Seppoland or Afghanistan, I'm only taking Australia.
Forget about high load industrial fuking ovens and what not. Not fuking relevant.
I've wired hundreds of houses from top to bottom in Australia under the supervision of tradesman and under instruction from Tech school.
Can't remember the figures as that was 40 years ago but i'll never forget the sizes of the wiring for standard installs and how its done.
Actually I always carry my camera but did not have it that day unfortunately.
Gota be a real Australian Electrician on this forum for fuk sake.

I'd like to believe that is true, Terry, but where have you shown that the wiring code in Thailand is "the same as in Australia"? Have you ever seen a copy of the Thai wiring code? Apparently not, but I suppose you don't actually mean 'code' as in 'regulations', do you?
Anyway, maybe I'll take a trip to Klong Toeh head Office Electrical Department in Bangkok one day to have a look for myself. Thanks for the heads up. And thanks for starting this thread, Terry. A good topic for discussion.
^
If I would of had my camera with me and snapped a pik the picture would indeed show what I am relating in this thread.
The Size of the cabling and how a house is wired is identical to how its done in Australia .
I talking residential installs only not heavy duty industrial ovens and shit.
Electrical Engineer EH.
What an absolute fukin tosser that tool was.
Stand up Terry you are muffling your voice...Originally Posted by terry57

Erm, no its not.
The household wiring is the same innit. Need that Picture EH.
Fuk it, I might just take a trip back out there, take the pic and post the fuker up.
Fix you fukers right up then.
Just got back from our home in Thailand that Andy built for us a year ago which is fitted with a proper 3 core earth trip system , firstly after a year away I turned everything on and everything worked perfectly .
Secondly , last Monday we had the mother and father of a storm the like of which I have never experienced in Feburary and one by one the other 4 properties on the family ranch had the lights go out ,, and ok ours went out when the electric went down but not before .
Bloody sound job , done properly without all little bits of extension wire tagged on here and there
I'm proud of my 38" waist , also proud I have never done drugs
^^ You are one serious dumbfuck if you think that regulations are correct or adhered to in Thailand...Let's take the 15A meter that allows you 45A because them Euro dudes allow for triple safety....
You need more fires to fight or something...you dumb arse fuck?

^Again, to whom are you speaking?...
Many years ago in the UK, I re-furbished my house, new kitchen and all.
I got one of those shiny electric fan assisted ovens. They wouldn't install it until I had a larger electric cable installed (30 amp?)
Jesus mate, you're pissed again EH.
I did not say that at all you fukin muppet.
All I have said all along is that the wiring Mock up of a standard house install on display at head office klong Toey Bangkok is correct and spot on.
Wish some of you coonts could actually fukin read.

Oh yes,
You are the Electrical Engineer who tells us 10mm cable is correct for a House oven. .
You tool, When talking ovens in standard House installs 4 mm is fine except if its a heavy draw which it will not be for the average fokin family.
10 mm would be the width of your cock, that's about it.
