Thread: Painting time

Okay bored and a little pissed:
Imagine, if you will, a concrete oblong house on concrete stilts on the side of a mountain:
Up. ..Master bedroom, dual entry ensuite, kitchen and lounge TV room opening onto long circumventing veranda with sliding doors to view. Down 50% partially enclose one bedroom plus laundry and bathroom.
Been maybe 8 years and paintwork looking a bit jaded. Have a recent windfall of ROI, so cost not an issue.
Original paint for whole house in and out about 35k baht.
Probably do interior ourselves but was wondering what colours to use outside, currently beige and cream.Somewhat boring?
Wife considering very light pink, as roof is red with perhaps darker pink for highlights i.e. concrete poles etc.
Actually I am still tending toward Aussie green and cream.
Sigh..life is so full of decisions...

Go for a nice burnt orange colour (terracotta) and to let the house stand out from the foliage.

Also if I can find a professional will replace my pathetic attempts at tiling counter tops and back splash with a light coloured easy clean granite....

Good idea

Deffo not pink.
You can't go wrong with cream/beige for walls and brown/tan for borders and window/door frames etc.

This guy has a heap of Reds but I was thinking the same.

That is quite cheap.

Just hope he uses good quality paint.

OP, for deciding what color to go for, go and check out the building mega stores nearest to you. Their paints dept. will have free color charts of all the top brands.

Much easier to be sitting at home looking at the color charts while imagining the color applied to the walls. You can also check the paint color against your furniture, flooring, etc.

I've just started doing my own painting and decorating inside the house and I'm doing it one room at a time. When one room is completely finished then I'll begin on the next room. Already started the first room and painted the walls and skirting boards. Changed the light sockets and switches and will be giving the ceiling panels a coat of paint soon.

Paint is cheap as chips. So far I've used almost 3.5 litres of Beger paint at about 600-700b.
Roller with tray, 80b from Homeworks.
1'' brushes (AR brand) for gloss painting skirting boards and for places the roller can't reach, 10b from Homeworks.
Bought half a dozen of them. Use them, then throw them away. No need to clean the buggers. And the bristles don't come out sticking to the paintwork either.

Paint it the same colour as the mountain... camoflage it.

My Hand bag has a house in Samut Prakan just out side Bangers. Its 10 years old now and needed a total repaint top to bottom, doors, windows outside walls and the front gate.

In fact everything needed re doing and the only thing not redone was the ceilings. She is re renting it out so time for the full over haul.

Also the back roof was leaking into the kitchen so that needed doing. A hot water and A/C system needed fitting as well.

Anyway she gets recommended this guy that lives in the same Moo ban, she rings him and down he comes.

The quote came in at 50,000 Baht.

Fuk me, considering this is Thailand I was concerned he was taking the piss, anyway Thai business ain't my business . She was OK with it and gave him the job.

Renovating is my game but considering her Ban was a 3 hour return trip from Silom it certainly was not in this case.

BTS to Bearing then 30 minutes in the Taxi, then back again everyday.

Fuk that EH.

So she pony's up 30 K cash down payment, the rest to be paid on completion.

He started last Sunday and finished this Sunday, him and his wife working together.

On Sunday we rock up, I was quite concerned that we might be looking at a cheap sub standard Job.

Fuk me dead, this guy has pulled a rabbit out of a hat and done a First class A1 job that any professional painter would be proud of. He has filled holes, removed all the flaking paint and repaired the roof.

No spillage, he has used top quality acrylic paint and not a spot was missed. Actually, I could not of done the job he had done, it was simply brilliant.

He has mounted the water heater, its been wired correctly with Earthing and Isolator switch, also routed other wires that were hanging down.

So she gives the guy the extra 20 K and we walk away very foking happy.
Worth every baht,Blinding job he has done.

I have bought her an A/C, hot water heater and payed 5 K extra for the wiring, switches and sundries. Being the generous bastard I am I kicked in 20 K all up.

So 70 K laid out all up and she has brand new house again.

In reality it has cost her nothing simply because the refit has added that value back onto the house.

Amazing Thailand EH. Some times things turn out better than planned.

Re the A/C. Last week I buy this A/C on special at Home Pro for 13 K . Two days later they have Installed it, all included in the 13 K.

The installer also done a brilliant careful job with his wife working as his off sider.

With a perfectly good domain to reside - why do you want to rent it out ?
Maybe live in it for year or three and take advantage of the new amenities and fresh feel...rent free.

Take a look at my colour scheme mate ,, a nice clean yellow top with a dark brown 600mm around the base ,, still looks great a year on 2 undercoats + 2 top coats good quality paint NO Thai thinning with water , as per my instructions

I love being on ground Zero Silom with every thing outside my door. Doubt whether I'll ever live outside the city.

Nice little spot she has but nothing out there for me and to far away from MBK.

It's for her future, the Sky Train is punching down there and prices are rising.

She rents it out and we live on Silom.

Much better.
