And, does anyone know where in Pattaya this is, and how it's coming along?
That design would seem a little out of place in Thailand. A pity, as the original architect produced some other very interesting airy designs.
I guess, each to his/her own. I wonder who owns the land?
I presume it will leak and start to fall apart pretty quickly like most of his other designs.
a bit massive for Thailand, interior is nice though
His own home was a disaster. The roof design was done by a 10 yo retard.Originally Posted by watterinja
LOL.. Thanks for those replies.. What was I thinking; of course we always know everything better, here in Pattaya.
Seriously though, if there's leaking then it would be an issue in the construction, not so much the design/architecture?
The one thing I did wonder about was one of Wright's most famous buildings, built pretty much on top of a waterfall. That always looked like HUGE hassle to me, because you have once or twice a year that a whole lot of water, mud, rocks and complete trees are coming down..
The same applies to building on mountains or near coastlines.. They're not the most stable environments..
No. Many of his designs carried serious flaws. Of course, the place I was referring to (his own home) was probably used to test a few ideas, rather than being built as a building destined to last a long time, but it just means that it is a pig to maintain.Originally Posted by WhiteLotusLane
The place in Pattaya looks quite nice though. I'd hate to imagine the pain that the guy is going through trying to get it built properly.
I work 5 minutes walking distance from FLW's Robie House (that's the design that's going to be modeled in Pattaya).
I think anything similar to that design in Thailand will look really strange, so I think it's a cool idea! I like things that don't match put together!

I think they look great. Not very practical though.

Fore sure...like Falling Water - the home he built in Pennsylvania over a stream. Very nice.
One of the pioneers of modern architecture.
Wright built 362 houses. About 300 survive as of 2005. Three have been lost to forces of nature: the waterfront house for W. L. Fuller in Pass Christian, Mississippi, which was destroyed by Hurricane Camille in August 1969, the Louis Sullivan Bungalow of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and the James Charnley Bungalow of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, which was also gutted by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The Ennis House in California has also been damaged by earthquake and rain-induced ground movement. In January, 2006, the Wynant House in Gary, Indiana was gutted by fire. Not a bad ratio at all.
