Thread: Standard door thickness in Thailand?

Any of you guys know the standard door thickness dimension in Thailand? I am asking as I want to buy an entry door set with a dummy here in the states and not sure standard. Best I can find is all doors in Thailand are 4cm (~1.50"). US standard entry doors start at 4.5cm(~1.75") all inside doors here are 4cm.

Some may say buy the entry door set in Thailand but we have not been able to find anything other than door knobs or levers and we want something a bit nicer on the entry doors. We found some chinese junky deals but I would prefer to have a nice Schlage or Kwikset

True, the alternative is have the Teak craftsman make a thicker door and jam for front. Might go that route.

Your standard sort of Global House/Homepro off the shelf type wooden doors seem to be 3cms wide (both for external and internal doors).

I'm not sure on the thickness of standard wooden composite doors (the ones with a wooden frame and plywood outer skins), they may be a bit wider?

As TM says, you can get doors made to whatever design you want, but it does cost a bit to do so.

That's the traditional manner, as the solid teak doors tend to last forever if crafted well [custom]..

Get together with your door maker and agree on thickness and whatnot.

I think the standard door thickness (when using reclaimed timber) is whatever thickness is left after planing and sanding the original timber until you get a nice smooth surface.

The standard is that there is no standard.

I have solid wood internal doors, they all measure between 35mm and 38mm.

I cannot agree with you:
-The wood is not so cheap here, neither easily available. You might compare the wood prices here and in USA - that's why containers with US wood are daily arriving to Thai ports.

The labor is no longer so cheap here, neither easily available.

"Poor Chinese lo grade" here? Perhaps in Global House can some be found, but not always so cheap. And not always really "lo grade".

"1.8 m common in rural places"? That is not so common, perhaps exceptionally just for a hong naam. 2 m is a standard, even in non-standard Thailand.

Look at Thai websites to see what's available in Thailand. The one below says, "Suitable for door leaf thicknesses 35–48 mm".

Thanks for the responses. I was able to track down my answer.

For a few responded though, There are many "Standard" type house build products for homes now in Thailand. Plumbing, electrical, drains, septic tanks, water pumps and doors for the most part. While I agree build practices have no real consistent standards many house components are.

As for the doors, Styles range between 35mm up to 45mm. Anything outside that is clearly custom. Most entry door hardware accommodates those thicknesses.

As for why not buying in Thailand, Here I can get them way cheaper and the missus likes the styles. She will bring over in a suitcase on next trip. The double entry door created issues as to find a dummy set with the entry set proved to be difficult. The door maker will not drill holes in door or mortise in the jam until hardware is there. Makes it easy.

You can certainly find nice lock sets in Thailand from numerous suppliers including Schlage and others you will be familiar with. Try Haffele. They have a retail store in Pattaya and a good website for ordering online.
