    The Chang Yai Project

I thought I would start a thread regarding my Building Project to add to all the wonderful threads here on Teak Door. Wish me luck as i begin to pour money into my Moo Baan's economy. First ive got add some photos of the land. We purchased 1 Rai 69 Wa for 470k. I am hoping to purchase the 1 Rai lot next door for a lot cheaper because now the owners have no road access (the access was through our lot).

I have posted photos on here before using photo bucket, but that was a while ago. is there a new and better way now?

I wish you all the luck in the world with your build.

Uploading photo's hasn't changed I guess, you can use one of the countless photo storage sites and use the photo-URL to show the picture here (using the insert image button as you post).

This is the land as purchased. If it works, I will post a few more.

Hey, it worked. Heres a few more of the land as purchased.

So you get the general idea, very overgrown! Negotiated with the family next door, soon to be neighbours, about clearing the land. We settled on 3500 baht. More photos to come.

As well as the small bushes, lemon grass, potatoes, corn, bananas etc. We needed to remove around 6 large tree's from along the fence line. The branches were mostly removed by hand before a big excavator was used to push them over. The trees were actually sold for their timber. we got around 400 baht per tree.

^thats what I initially thought, as trees take so long to grow back home. They were along the fence line where we will build a wall. Plus they can fall on the house. We kept 2 really big mango trees though.

Me doing my bit, although I quickly through the towel in and had a beer.

Almost cleared, better get ready to get the wallet out.

Well heres the cleared land, with some fill on and the tractor doing the levelling. All done by eye. And pretty good too.
Below is the back corner looking towards the road.

Once he pushes over that last tree, he will dig the hole for the pool.

And there, finished in about 30 minutes. 12 M long, 2 M deep and 3 M wide. All done by eye (alright, they did have a stick to check the depth). Still, I was really impressed by the skill of these people.

Time to sort out the crossover and drain. This will be the last job for the siteworks crew. We are putting in a 6 M wide opening, so we bought 8 x sections of 400mm Pipe (1200 long).

Sorry about mixing up the sequence. heres a shot of the rather impresive mango trees that will shade the pool area. Im told they are over 100 years old.

Just mixing it up a little here. When I uploaded my albums to Photoshop, they are all over the place.

200 Baht a truckload. All the levelling included. I paid 2000 baht extra for the pool hole though, because I forgot to ask up front. That included pushing over the trees. 200 x 283 = 56,600 baht. Trip into town to the bank required.

Thats the 1 Rai of land Im keen on in the background. it has around 8 Yellow mango trees on it. I can buy it for 200k now, but Im trying to get the price down, cant have the locals taking advantage of the Falang. What am saying? Hahaha.

Some of the materials to construct the boundary wall arrive. We opted to buy the materials ourselves and pay staff for the labour.

2 Meter high wall all the way around. The houses next door are really close to the boundary. But they are build way forward then where we will build.

The steel re-bar for the footings and concrete columns.

Be nice if you can increase the pic size to 800 by 600. That works perfect on this forum.

    Your build looks interesting.

Yes Terry, thats what I want to do. I didnt really worry when I posted the pic's, because I thought they would automatically be resized. Ive seen a messge about the picture being automatically resized on here before. Perhaps the have turned it off. Can I go back and re-size them now?
