Bath tub alternatives / make your own tub

[Rant on why big houses have more bathrooms than I have fingers on my hand, but none of them of any nice luxurious size. Let me know if anyone wants the rant]

Ok, none of my bathrooms will fit anything other than a standard sized 3000-5000 baht bathtub, none of the nice big ones.

The one attached to the main bathroom though has a shower area with a tiled wall partition. Now my thought is: Lets not put in a bathtub at all, but continue the partition all the way through but only 1-2 ft high, so it will essentially create a 'tub' that can be filled with water. Yes the floor of the 'tub' may need raising/re-tiling to accommodate for a plug (perhaps even plug-mechanism) and so you don't feel like you're sitting on the floore, and then the back side of the tub would need some diagonal tiling to get a shape you can comfortably sit/lie down in.

Question: Am I way out to lunch?

I once stayed in a hotel off Jomtien (Nirvana Boutuque Suites) that had a HUGE concrete tub that took half an hour to fill, was made of concrete/cement and was left cement color. I kind of liked it.

Thoughts? I could maximize the available space for the bath 'tub', and it wouldn't cost 32,000 baht for one of those fancy duo / corner tubs that I can't fit anyway. That hotel bathroom (and tub) can be seen here, half way down the page:

woops, still not allowed to post links... I need 10 posts.. Will post in the second post after this one. :P

Ok this is my 10th post so I can now post the link.

Quite nice design throughout, but note the bathroom (and tub) half way down:

I have been thinking about doing something like that in my BKK home. The problem is the wife wants the white tub look.

Why not just tile it in white mosaic tiles?

Yea, that is what I said. However, the wife still wants the rounded bathtub look. The battle continues...

I've got three bathrooms - none of them big enough for a tub Thinking of building an outdoor jacuzzi at the moment.

Thanks all, that's encouraging. To Hillbilly, a good argument might be that in a taylor-sculpted tub you will both fit in together more comfortably.

So, would any professional tiling person who's good about his craft in general be able to do the mini-mosaic tiling thing around a somewhat sculpted cement tub?

Well there will be odd bits but as the mosaics are so small they wont be noticed, just get them to start in the center and do all the easy bits first then do the fill ins.

I just realized something, we're talking about tiny tiny mosaic tiles right? Like around 1 cm width & length? Not something like 1-1.5 inches width & length?

Follow up: Talked with a 'chang' on this, and he was concerned about leakage through the tiles/cement. He said on the ground floor this would be less of a concern, but as the bathroom is on the second floor, he advised against it.

Surely there must be a way to completely block leakage, even if it means applying some other material in there somewhere?

I would get a differant builder, 99 percent of shower areas in Thailand are floored in tiles, tiles are waterproof and grout is waterproof, may have to regrout every few years and that is it.

I have a lovely big bath in London, but the only person who has used it was a Filipino g/f. She used to like a glass of wine and wet sex

in UK and Thailand, showers are the best thing for me to get clean!

Your are a blinkered lot aren't you.
Make a male mould, and then make a FRP moulding.
Flip the moulding off, invert it, viola a bath tub, any shape or size you choose.
I'm about to start building a house and the toss up with wife and daugter is pool or spa. Either way I have to build it and install it, so I have a few ideas.
Thius is the easiest way to knock up a bath tub, believe me. Plenty of small FRP shops around pattaya as well.

Asked for it I suppose, comes down to terminology used in the trade.
If you are intrested in making a bath this is the chepest and best method.
