    Offering help (for free)

    What?
    Yes, I'm offering help. No, I won't babysit, be your personal servant nor offer my body for pleasure. I can help you with the following services:
    -All kinds of Autocad drawings (from sketch to fully detailed work plans, contract-drawings and everything in between);
    -Artist impressions (photo realistic renders);
    -Making a program of demands for a building;
    -Calculation of required materials (such as amount of bricks/concrete/steel needed etc);
    -Checking buildings for the building code in the preparation phase (according to European standards of fire/construction safety, incidence of daylight, etc);
    -Building physics reports (sound, light, heat, etc);
    -Calculation of the construction (standard materials as concrete, steel and wood);
    -Help with architecture / designing;
    -Planning (although it won't really be accurate here in Thailand with the majority of the builders building very very slowly and in different ways);
    -Site inspector with daily briefings to the client if requested (this is not really free because of travelling costs).

    Free?
    Yep totally free (!for all projects started in the coming few months!). If transportation is required/requested I will need a compensation for that.
    Donations after my work are always appreciated of course.

    Who?
    My name's Michael de Graaf, I'm from the Netherlands, I'm 27 years old and I've got a full-time teaching position (8:00-16:00). I've got a degree in building/structural engineering, officially it's called "Bachelor of built environment" (copy can be mailed on request). I've got 1 year of experience @ an architect (INBO architects in the Netherlands), 3 years of experience @ a contractor (1 year BAM and 2 years Dura Vermeer in the Netherlands).

    I can help anyone, regardless of location, age, race, etc*
    Unless you've got a building company that is.

    Why?
    First of all I like to help people. Nowadays when I get home, my wife is busy so I watch some movies or play a game. It gets boring so I need something to do. I also want to look for a construction job, in order to get this I want to make a portfolio, these free projects will be used for my portfolio.

    When?
    I can start now, right now. I will work in some of the evenings and in the weekend, my work schedule right now is like this:
    Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: school 8:00-20:00 (after 2 months 8:00-16:00)
    Wednesday and Friday: school 8:00-16:00
    Saturday and Sunday: occasionally going to the big city for shopping.

    The rest of the time (evenings and weekends) I'm available.

    Where?
    I'm based in a village near Chomphra city (Surin province in Isaan). I've got my home office with a laptop and some tables for drawing/sketching/brainstorming.
    Address and phone number are available on request.

    How does it work?
    It's quite easy, you must send me a request with all necessary information first. Then I will take a look whether I'm capable to do it or not and I must check my schedule. I will send my reply back to you as soon as possible.

    Contact?
    I prefer e-mail contact as it's easy to send attachments with it and it can be sent any time of the day (yes even at night, lol). I usually check my e-mail a few times per day, at work and in the evening, unless the Internet is down. Skyping is no option yet, as it somehow isn't compatible with my notebook's camera. Google talk or other programs can be used.

    My contact information:
    E-mail: michael.degraaf@gmail.com
    Facebook: michael.degraaf@gmail.com
    Mobile: on request
    Address: on request

    That's damn helpful of you mate, though you might have wanted this in members.

    Now if we can find a Thai certified engineer who will sign off on your plans for a minimal fee.....

    OK, I have sent you 2 private messages, equireing about your services, the first one was about a month ago, the second over the last few days and you have'nt replied.
    That was before your generous statement of no charge.

    I did reply about a few weeks ago? By the way, I've never got any second message? A few days ago?

    //edit: back then I replied what your real question was because you didn't really state a question (or very crypticcally).

    That's pretty good of you, Michael!

    I'll be sure to give you a shout if I do any further construction projects.

    Sorry Micheal, I did reply to your private message on the 14..6..13 @ 6.41 PM,
    so maybe it has gone astray, as for my latest request for information, looks like I pushed the wrong buttons and did'nt send it afterall.
    If it is OK with you, I will private message you later this evening listing what we want to do.
    I do not expect your service's for free.
    My appologies for the mix up.

    No problem, you can send a private message or e-mail. Use whatever is more convenient. My services will be free (unless travelling is required) so don't worry about that.

    Michael

    A very appreciated offer - thanks!

    With all the expertise on TD (or sometimes supposed expertise) it's a pity that such offers do not occur more frequently.

    Well done!

    Not trying to be a pain in the proverbial, OP, but you do have a work permit, don't you? Rhetorical question, don't answer. Even doing work for free or voluntary you need a WP. I know, as I was unpaid for years in Thailand. There is always some nasty person who will take against you & use any opportunity to get you into trouble, and you've given a lot of info out.
    I think what you're doing is lovely & all kudos to you, but just wanted to point that out.

    Thanks for pointing that out, I will take certain counter measures just in case. Officially this is not a job ( ) but just a hobby of mine.

    Can't anyone do something socially nice without the cloud of legalities interfering?

    That deserves a green even though I don't need your services.

    Unless you know anything about skirting boards, the bane of my existence?

    I'm afraid I can't help you with skirting boards, is the problem fitting them or fabricating them? I did find this:

    Unfortunately no. I would have thought what I was doing was socially nice, too. Along with anyone doing voluntary work of any sort. Doesn't matter to the Thai govt, only the correct paperwork does.

    After the initial mix up with communication, Micheal and myself have exchanged e-mails and he has made the very generous offer to do some work for us. Iv'e sent images of what we would like to build, Micheals responce has been very positive and comeing from a guy with his credentials, gives us the encouagement we are on going in the right direction.
    What we need to do now is forward the ground plans and a scetch of what we think we want so he can make a start.
    When our project is underway, I will keep all informed as to what we are doing and the progress.

    This does seem like a very good way to get yourself out there and known... Build your portfolio up like you say but there are too many Internet cocks that might want to put obstacles in your way for no reason.

    You should cover yourself somehow for things like NR pointed out. After all if you become too much of a success you might be perceived as taking valid work away from others...

    I hope you do succeed and wish you all the best as it is good initiative.

    Far as I'm aware, Thai build plans need to be signed off by a Thai certified builder/engineer.
    His work effort might be looked at as conceptual art, but it will have no "product" and is not work in the legal sense.
    I think.

    True, but luckily, most people can simply build without getting a Thai 'professional' involved.

    I've been busy taking come counter measures, good luck matching this account to me Nerds will know what I'm talking about so I won't exactly state what I've done .

    It seems that I'm going to be quite busy for a while, I've already got 5 or 6 responses.

    I must say, Michael has done a set of drawing for my future gaff, and has done a very nice job. I'm waiting for him to supply skilled builders to complete the job....
