    Electrolux air conditioners

Anyone got one? I'm looking to buy two air cons and was going to go for Mitsubishi or Daiken but looking at home pro yesterday I noticed they had electrolux.

I liked it as it had a better filter( they had a model set up with the filters used in Daiken and Mitsubishi and the stuff used in the electrolux was clearly better)

Also, the electrolux had a "hydrophilic" coating on the condenser coil which is a product that helps water shed faster.

All in, it had some good features not fou d on the other two.

Now, I like electrolux as a brand and have bought the majority of my appliances in this brand including a 20000B front loading washing machine. But that was faulty from day one and needed replacing (which they did very efficiently) The only thing is now my faith in this brand has taken a large hit.

Just throwing that out there to see if anyone has some real life experience with them as mostly Mitsubishi and Daiken are the ones recommended and I need to buy two ac soon. I'd hate to have two lemons.

Ooooooo great question to ask. We will be needing to buy a/c units for our house soon. I was wondering what brands to consider. I figured Mitsubishi would be one of them.
    I'll be following this thread.
    Thanks for asking !

The Mitsubishi unit in my last house ran all night most every night for 5 years and never needed anything more than occasionally cleaning the plastic screen filter, which could be washed in water.

The Company that brought you Pearl Harbor does make quality appliances.

We also bought a Daikin on recommendation and it has been a disappointment. Had it 2 years now and the fan ' hunts ' all the time. After a thorough cleaning it will be o.k. for about a week but then starts with the same fault. Our air con man says our room is dusty ( bullshit...same as everyone elses ) and that I use it more than most people ( true ) so it clogs up quicker . All I can say is it must be a rogue unit. Even our old LG was better but was a pig when it came to cleaning ( very difficult to remove cover )

Never heard a bad word said about Mitsubishi by anyone.

Have used Mitsubishi air con for five years absolutely no probs. Originally bought from and installed by local "family business" ( they are not just sales persons they know what they are doing). Unit was considerably cheaper to buy and install from local outlet than at big super stores also annual follow up service for three years for free. I have found by bitter experience that these super stores once they have your money do not want to know about after sales service or repairs. I now buy all my electrical goods from a large established family run businesses where you get after sales service and they honour guarantees after all they want your custom in the future My advice is look around find an established dealer (the one I deal with sells Electrolux products (made in China) along side many other makes). You can usually "bargain" with family businesses to reduce the price something Super Stores will not do unless for some reason they wish to clear a particular product.

Ok, interesting points. I too favour using local stores for a better service.

But, I was in Siam TV here in Chiang Mai today and there is a sale on ACs with some good discounts to be had, about 3000-5000 B off.

I spent a good bit of time checking out the different makes and one thing I found that I like is the fineness of some of the filters. These are called HD filters and it is obvious they are better and keeping dust out of the condenser coil which when combined with the wetness causes it to clog up and forms mould. Nasty.

Samsungs were the best with a 80 (micron I suspect) filter. Electrolux had 60 micron and all the rest were normal. These two have coatings on the condenser coils as well to prevent mould. I think this is an important aspect as we all know having the I door unit cleaned is a big job but has to be done for efficiency and health reasons. I think these better filters and coatings would go a long way to prolong the service intervals.

I liked the Samsungs and as a brand is putting out some good stuff lately but as I was opening them up and fiddling with them felt the build quality was poor compared to the electrolux.

I noticed electrolux had its own section with all their appliances there, which I always feel is of a better quality than the other brands so I am leaning towards them. They also are additionally discounted on top of the sale until the end of the month. Just the filter at 60micron is not as good as Samsungs 80. Small thing but their remotes were much nicer and had a bigger screen so I can see it without my glasses on Nearly all my appliances are Electrolux and I spend a good deal of time researching and checking out all the different types. I got time and the shops are cool and filled with attractive staff! As I said though my washing machine was faulty from new and even though they replaced it with a new one my faith in them has dropped. Plus I have never seen electrolux ACs on any homes.

Of course having a finer filter means more frequent cleaning but I am happy to do that easy job compared to getting the condenser coil cleaned.

Others of value I noticed were Haier which I felt were a good brand of AC and they had inverter models at a good price too. Samsungs inverter models were also within reach at only B5000 over the non inverter for two of the ones I need. Maybe worth springing to one of those?

My line of thinking is to keep it simple and go for quality. Problems with inverters will be costly and with the quality of the electrical supply here.....

I obviously looked at the Mitsubishi ones but they were substantially dearer and lacking in features, are they possibly resting on their laurels I wonder?

How much is it to replace the Hepa filters and how often do they, normally, need to be replaced ?

I haven't checked too closely into it, but what's the difference between inverter and non-inverter ? I remember seeing ads for inverter type units while in the LOS, but never really looked into it.

I just put a Samsung 9000btu inverter in a small room I turned into a mini-gym. It was only 14k so I thought i'd give it a go. Very quiet and effective.
I would not purchase air-con that was not inverter now, the price difference is so small you will save the 5000 baht you mentioned in a couple of years and you never have to endure the compressor noisily kicking in and out which tends to wake me up.

Aftersales support always a major consideration. Availability of parts and service in your locale. Which ever brand you chose make sure they have service organization near you. I have 9 year old Toshiba ACs. All have been trouble free.

The inverter debate is a tricky one....can buy cheaper brand ones but ones from Mitsubishi, Daiken etc are still really expensive.

Why? I think we know the answer. Electricity is still pretty cheap here, repairs to inverters will be expensive and porridge electricity supply/ spikes etc are making me think to just run good quality non inverters for now. If they last ten years I can look at inverter models then.

We purchased a Mitsubishi inverter unit 18 months ago.......I have had many air cons in various countries......this is the best I have had.......Using an inverter technology does make power savings but more importantly the compressor is not constantly on./off cycling which eventually leads to switchgear problems and adds cycling sounds....which if you are a light sleeper will disturb your sleep.....the Mitsubishi in silent run mode is barely audible and you have to listen to hear if its running.......and quickly pulls down the temp when switched on......then runs almost silently all night. Correctly sizing the unit for the room is quite important .........substantial over sizing can cause problems ........ideally you need air con operating under load in its designed best efficiency range....which means not flat strap.....continually chasing the temperature....but also not running right on the bottom of the curve.
We purchased a reverse cycle unit and had to wait for it to come from Bangkok as it gets down to 14 or 15 c overnight in December and January in parts of the North East.............

Thanks Roger for the feedback. I'm not interested in the reverse-cycle, especially in Nakhom Pathom. But it helps me appreciate the value of the inverter technology, hearing from an actual user.
Yeah, I know it's not my thread, but good intel is always appreciated.
