    Gravity type solar heaters

I have two oldish solar water heaters for sale, one 160 litres, the other 300l

the small one is set up on a stand for a flat roof, but obviously can be altered

the large one is not set up at all, it was a demo model and has never been used properly

both are in working order (not much to go wrong!) and come with new gravity feeder tanks; they produce very hot water

note these are the type that need to be set up above your water system as they cannot be pumped and work by gravity

    offers invited!!
    I have reported your post

^ is that high or low?

After the flood situation has died down, if you still have them and they (or 1) is affordable then I'd be interested (but I'm in Bkk).

Hi Dr. A, when you say they cannot be pumped you mean once heated, i take it that it can take a pump up to the inlet tank, then you use gravity for the out?

They have tanks connected to the plate? Any pics possible?

What are the measurements, how heavy etc?

If you dont answer in 10 secs this message will self destruct!
im hot its so hot today.......milk was a bad choice!

not sure how old, a few years but they are just glass and stainless steel so as new except for dents!

    yes, to be sold seperately

they are not suitable for my set up; I tried pumpng out of one of them but the hot water ruined the pump! so I have had the flat plate type fitted - these have the vaccuum tubes all in a row

    is that enough answers?

    obviously not enough

they look like the pic on the top right

    Aucklat Solar Water Heating System

You cannot pump through this type, so you pump up to the small gravity feed tank which lets water in as you use it

the tanks are 160litres and 300 litres resp. and are connected to the tube set (not a plate)

measurements, dunno as they are not in CM where I am, but the smaller one is about 1.5 x 2m and weighs enough when empty, more when full!

like this one... a row of glass tubes linked to the tank

I am tempted in getting both, where are they currently?

My only concern is that your upgrade is the same upgrade i will need! Ive been thinking of getting panels, and then a separate tank, but as im coming up to installing plumbing for the houses, i would really like to make them all eco friendly.

Let me find out a little more, then i will let you know.

as long as you can mount them above your hot water outlets, no problem

a lot cheaper than buying the panel-type!!

they are both on my farm in Mai Rim, come and have a look, arrange a meeting

Yes expense is one thing, but both my bathrooms in the main house are already quite high, it might mean having to build a tower for these models. What drop did you find sufficient for the pressure, i think my shower manuf recommends at least a 1 meter drop? I would love to come and see your mae rim home anyway, so maybe i can arrange something with you? As it involves other people for a business, i have to get info and then tell them the gaff before commting anything.

    Cheers

Gravity round this way is fairly low, what's the minimum gravity requirement?

sounds like a pain in the ass to install, even if they were for free

those things are not ready for prime time, still marginal toys for eco nutters

^ they have a similar panel but also a tank on top

    so look similar to any solar hot water heater;

you are being a bit stupid Butterf, that is a test rig of some sort

The pic I posted is what they are similar to

your pic is small, but yes your tank is better looking

the question remains that they seem to be a pain to install, above all when most Thai houses are equipped with only "cold" water canalization and only "local" water heater pipes in the bathroom

it is prob not worth bothering to build a tower when you can buy the pumped versions; these are meant to go on the roof, or a tower, but the added expense of a tower doesn't make sense

the pumped versions can sit on the ground; I have built a low tower for mine, just so I can walk underneath the thing; it also acts as a roof for the outside kitchen

these will just add hot water to an existing system, so should be similar

    still quite big,

I assume you currently use something else in your house to heat the water ?
