    Bungalow in a pond.

A while ago someone was posting about wanting to build out over a pond and I mentioned a friend who has a bungalow IN a pond.
Well, getting out of the Bangkok heat for a few days and have come down to stay in this bungalow built in the middle of a 20m circular pond.

Not very good pics as the extensive garden makes for few lines of sight. Sorry.
Also, note the bungalow in question is owned by a Thai female and is therefore Purple. Sorry again...

She excavated the pond and used the dirt to raise the half rai plot. A small klong runs down the side of the plot so keeping the pond full is not an issue.

The bungalow itself is quite simple, there is only a single large room for sleeping and a large back deck that has a kitchen and living area. The large seats built into the rails double as bunks when guests come.

Lots of fish in the pond,, but there are a few mozzies about.

It's properly plumbed to town water and sewage. The bathroom is on the mainland at the back of the house.
But in the night, I just piss over the rail...

Nice idea. I wonder if the water has any kind of cooling influence ( Necrons piss not withstanding ) or does it evaporate up making things stickier. I guess not as all the shade probably prevents a lot of evaporation.

Not much direct light hits the pond, lots of overhanging trees.
When there is a breeze, it's very cool. Even during the day.

I've spent a fair amount of time living in rafts on the Sirikit Dam.
It was always cooler than living on land and that was without any shade.
Also never got bitten by mozzies.
Mozzies live under foliage it's only the larvae that live in water.

As to size, the main platform is 8 x 8m, with the centre room being 5 x 5, so 1.5 meter balcony all sides. The rear deck was an extension to the original building and is 3 x 8m along the back of the house.

The concrete piles are 4 m downi below the bottom of the pond and support the deck. The house and flooring and rails are all wood....painted purple....

Cost her about 700k including outbuildings and salas, a lot of which have been knocked up with recycled gear.

One of those things that looks nice in pics but I am afraid no matter what anyone says if I visited it would be mosquito central , surely thats where the problems come from mozzies and stagnent water

    ^ Green isn't stagnant.
There are a ton of fish in the pond to eat larvae.
There are mozzies, but these mostly come from the garden which has many, many potted plants.
I probably get more mozzies in my moobahn than here.

    ^ not

mossies breed and lay eggs in stagnant water; in addition, fish love to eat the larvae

our house built over a pond has a few mossies but nothing more than anywhere else

most of the mossies we found seemed to have come from our second septic tank! it was full of them, so we treat that now
    I have reported your post

^ you do have to be a little careful about where you toss your car keys and wallet an stuff though.
In phetchaburi, under the sala surrounded by rice fields with a big breeze feels like about 27 deg or so. Lovely.

Great idea I love the feel it displays.....Is is cooler over the water at night so that you dont need the A/C? It is hard to tell if the place is closed off enough to run an A/C anyhow

One of the great things about this country is that you can do what you want. Dig a hole and put a house on it. Why not? Place looks like a wonderful place to live.

I'm not having it. In the summer months the top layer of that pond will definitely be a stagnant stinking mossie paradise
