Thread: Our first home

Well after renting for like 5 years we are building our first home.
Nothing major but glad to finally have our own.
All post photos as we go along,as i am at work the only photos i have are the house started allready.

Well its our first house,and i didn't fancy a condo in the city.And we are hoping to build a bigger house in korat sometime.
This one could be rented very easy in the future as its in a good village,nice pool and the entrance is like 300 meters from the main road.
There are 2 being rented here for 20,000 baht a month.
Anyway all keep it up too date until its finished

Yes that's for the motor,all be home in 2 weeks so al get better photos on.

well am just happy too get away from the rentals as the last 2 or 3 places i stayed had building work start next door.
its small but once its finished you will see the high ceilings and and hopfully a comfortable looking house.
am not old enough to start the gardening so all leave it for the next house we build.

Cheers boloa,thinking of the rental market in a few years.

Looks to me that they are taking a similar approach to aussie developments where they cram as many houses into an area as possible to maximise their profits ,only drawback to that is you step out of your back door and smack your nose on the fence and you hear your neighbour coughing and farting in the morning !

^ in outer bangkok, the cost to fill paddies is now comparable with the cost of the land itself.

@ Steve, you can still get 1000m2 blocks in Australia, in a capital city, but most people in Australia, don't want any gardening or shit, they both work, no time to do any gardening, all they want is just a place to lit up the Barbie, that's fine with them, all on a 300m2 block and guess what, most people are very happy, they have their own house, not renting anymore. Although the wages may be higher in OZ, the rents are ridiculous.

I have 2 1000m2 properties, Adelaide and Alice, I get over $500 a week! About 15,000 baht, but just pays for all costs, mortgage, council rates, water etc.

Dr Andy, sure your wife, like mine likes to plant things you can eat. On an intercity property, you have to make compromises, live in a 4x2 shack and eat of your land or build a bigger house and go to Tesco or Lotus, Big C, to name a few.

if you have to leave around 2m around the house, you can have an excellent garden to grow all sorts of things

we do in the city centre, no compromises needed. We have a smallish plot, a largeish house and a garden and courtyard

and we get a gardener to sort things out when the weeds start to take over

My shed is build right on the boundary, not a cm left. Today they put in the airco's one had to hang over the neighbors property, I told the misses, give him a 1000 baht, she told me , no a bottle of "regensaw" ( Thai whiskey 40%) will do. 100 baht and so it was. Don't worry too much about the neighbors. I live in the sticks but if they want to "broadcast" a community bulletin, first we get 1/2 hour of horrible full volume Thai music so everyone knows a message will be broadcasted, a screaming Thai voice to tell us what it is all about (last night blood testing, including the name of my wife!), pffff luckily it doesn't happen all too often, if on My property at the edge of the village, can't hear it at all. So happy to live on the edge of the village.

Question, do you plan to live there "full time" or just on holidays.

Hi Oz,yes there will be lights in the wall,i liked that as well.

We have taken the 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom and instead of the 3rd bedroom on the other side at the back we will have a area for seating and a barbecue.

We have taken a corner house so at least we wont have houses on all sides.
My gf will be going up today so hopefully should se a change,we are not in too much of a hurry as we are trying to pay as much of it of before it is ready.

Yes we will be living in it 100% sure,i live in thailand and work overseas so it will be nice too have our own place.
And it will be a good learning point for when we build our bigger house up country.

This house is the same as we are building, apart from we are having the black window frames like the house behind this one.

Looking great mate, I dont think you are to close to the nieghbours, be it
1 metre or 5 metres, it will make no differance, sound travels, to not hear them cough, you needed to build in the middle of a rice field.
I follow your progress with interest.
