Building a House in Khon Kaen

I'm not exactly building it myself but the contracter has started and I'm a bit confused about a few things.
We bought two plots of land in a new estate to the West of the city.
They started the foundations yesterday - they had all these little cylindrical cement things that they said they were going to put at the bottom of the holes. They called them 'look boon' - does anyone know what these are and what their purpose is?

Cheers! I'll be around here asking many more questions in the next 3 months.

They lift the rebar off the ground so when it's poured, you can be sure that the rebar is fully encased in the concrete - luk bpoon in action:

    PS.
It means they are doing it right, as a lot of country lads don't bother.

Well that's reassuring. We've got the foundations done and waiting to pour the columns. Waiting for the next crew to come.

How deep from the surface are the footings and how big? Is it a one-storey house or more?

They had beams, then put concrete 'planks', then added concrete.
    Here's an earlier photo.

Looking good Chalky !! I bet you're excited to get it going.

As far as the IMG tags, I'm assuming you are entering IMG tags and then pasting from photobucket? However, when you paste from photobucket, it automatically adds the IMG tags, so you don't need to include them. I know I had that issue early on in my house thread.

Do you have a pic of what the finished house should look like ?

    Buddist/ Thai shit.
When you buy the land you get it blessed.
I get this done "in house" cos Laosy is a part time Budddist nun..
First blessing involve "joss sticks?" pigs cock and balls, three colours ribbon, three colours drinks, three colours fruit.
Second blessing was before building.. ie before the builders went onto the land.. they wouldn't until this was done.
Same thing but a chicken had to meet it's maker this time.
Next blessing was before the roof went on.
9 baht in each of the holes for the roof supports, plus 9 leaves.
A garland of flowers was hung on the 9th roof support, how they worked out which one that was I don't know.
More joss sticks and a pigs face?
Falling asleep and waking up is not the same as passing out and coming to.

Wow - my wife is a Buddhist - goes to the temple once a week and gets up at 5.30 every morning to give the passing monks some food. Never did any of that stuff you mentioned. Never mentioned a ghost house yet either.

Sure - the house and land would cost 2,000,000 Baht. We got the plot next door for a larger garden so the price was 2,500,000 Baht.
