To brighten up my front of my tiny little garden I have been searching out for solar powered garden lights, and yep there is a guy who makes them here in Thailand.

I worked at a solar company years ago and we used to sell lights that looked just like that. Unfortunately we also got most of them back for warranty as they were useless.

Not saying this guy's ones are shite but I would be interested to see how long they work for. Solar has come a long way since I worked with it.

We are in the process of talking to this guy now.

I think that we are going to order 2 lights to begin with and see how they work out.

I have some that I bought in the UK and brought to Thailand a few months ago. They are ok but 1 of the four didn't work right out of the box it looks identical to the one in the OP's picture. They need direct sunlight so don't place them near places that get shady.

Has anyone heard back from this company or has used the lights? I'll be back in Thailand next Friday and if the lights are even half-way decent, I'll buy 10 of them.

There is a company on Hwy 2 half way beteen KK and udon called Thai German solar ( I think) freind of mine has used quite a bit of their stuff and found it reliable.

I know someone who bought some. They're 'ok'. Dont expect more than about 4 hours illumination out of the them on the rechargeable battery provided and it's more of a 'glow' than a 'light'. They look good along a garden parh of something though.

i bought 2 boxes, all work , surpriseingly, and yes not a light persay more a glow but they do the job as required and at that price after 4months of use and no problems worth the money

I've been to that factory and met with the owner yep he was Yerman guy at the time they made some good stuff and I guess over 5 years they will have developed the technology more.

At the time they were a BOI company and couldn't sell in Thailand but if you went with the cash no problem.

The products are based on German spec so were far better than the Chinky shit, a big plus was they would charge in partial light.

We also bought about 30 of these coloured balls that you can put in a swimming pools or fish pond all different colours looked nice at night.

I know its a bit off topic , but this is something I,ve been wondering about a while , does anyone know if you can get anything like a solar panel on your roof to drive an aircon unit in Thailand ?

In these days of ever increasing energy prices ( if viable ) it would possibly be a fantastic business idea ,, we are seeing solar roof panels everywhere in the UK now

yes, it would be more than fantastic

check the power out of a solar panel and the power needed for an aircon

the best thing about solar panels on the roofs in the UK is that you get a special rate for the electricity, and you can sell it back to them too

If I was the manufacture of the light & some won sent a email that they would like to buy 2 lights, I would not reply to the email.

I've brought boxes of various brands of solar lamps in my suit case for the Thai garden on multi occasions over the past 4 years when making visits to the US. They all worked well in the beginning but then the weather conditions here in Thailand took their toll. The heat, the humidity, the intense sun all had their impact on the lamps. The lamps began to break down. I've replaced the AA batteries and this was a cure for some of the lamps others just stopped functioning. Now, after having about 3 dozen lamps at one time am down to about 4 working lamps. Some from each batch that I brought over. The lamps work well for lighting a pathway or marking a boundry but as far as illumination goes, they are not really that bright. The replacement rechargeable AA batteries are expensive and last for about 1 year. The lamps themselves often died at the 1 year mark. The lamps of various styles and prices are available in Tesco Lotus and the local Home Pros', Home Marts, etc. Personally, I like the way they look and the ascetic value they add to the garden area but am more inclined at this point to put in outdoor electric lamps and just use them when needed or desired..
