House Inspectors, do they exist in Thailand ?

Someone posted on my house thread about a house or condo being inspected. That got me to thinking. Are there any legitimate house inspectors in Thailand ?

If so, how do I write "house inspector" in Thai and how do I pronounce it ? I want to talk with my wife about getting this done before the house company starts putting smoothcoat over everything, hiding any mistakes that exist.

And finally, if anyone can recommend someone legit, that would be truly helpful as well. Preferably in the Nakhom Pathom area.

    Thanks in advance !

When we built our house - many years ago now however - the internal wiring had to be inspected by an official from the MEA (Metropolitan Electricity Authority) before he would approve connecting the system to the Meter. (Up-country I guess this would have been done by the PEA).

Not sure if this process is still followed however.

Apart from that I have never heard of any inspection being necessary or even available on request.

Well, I'm in the USA right now.

I wasn't sure if there was anyone that actually offers this service. I know I could go into town and find plenty of Thais who would be willing to walk through my house for some easy money.

Just thought I'd ask. Thanks all.

Depends on where you are located. There are inspection services in some cities in Thailand.
I know for sure, Phuket has some.

I know of a builder who has his work signed off by a building inspector prior to getting paid.
I had a look at one of his projects after it was finnished, what a bloody disaster.
I thought about useing this guy to build my home when the time comes, no friggin way, but from what iv'e looked at it's Thai standard.
All l can say is, the "inspector" does'nt know jack shit with the same standards as the incompetent builder.

Wasn't taking the piss (more than i usually do anyway )

Your in the US - got it.

Try to get your head around this.

Here - you would do it this way.

Building inspection will be in place for condos and other big buildings. On a low level family dwelling there will be none. There can't be. If you build a decent place (assuming you will) it will be better than 90% of surrounding buildings. They would have to knock down the whole village if they get you to do it - got it?
The very very important bit when building is to know everything yourself - or as much as you can. Use your own judgement combined with some GOOD builders - you can find them if you look hard.

    Good luck

The builders here Thai and Farang submit plans to the govt and get them approved and then change the design and cut corners to reduce there building costs and improve profits
I think the village headman approves the building when finished, never seen a govt building inspector at the new houses being built around us i do not think they exist TIT

Even if there were building inspectors, I'm sure that they would be easily bribed by the builder to not report the true state of the build.

That would then only result in the total cost increasing, because your builder would need to pad his bill to cover the bribe.
