Thread: Mooban gaff

A friend of mine is building a house in his wifes home town, and by the look he's going for it seems like its going to be a very beautiful teak house. My missus also would like a house back in her home town, we do spend alot of time there so i can see the point kinda. I speak to alot of people though and they say having a home back in the village is also to do with "face". Anyone else have a village home? why did you have it built?

I bought a part built Thia house up in Kalasin not long after we were married- the reasons were multiple, a) it was cheap b) to give us somewhere to stay for holidays c) to give the wife a degree of 'security.

I stayed there once for three days and was bored to hell and told the missus there was no way I was going to stay there for any length of time. The security requirement having largely diminished, she sold the house and we put the money into land in Hua Hin - a far better prospect.

Keep some distance with all the so-called relatives in the village if you don't want your situaton to be unbearable.
As for me only some good friends are allowed inside, and they understand why.

Oh, and I don't build it, I just buy it from a chinese man and made some inprovement. Nice place, 25km south of Chiangmai, a little bit in the stick but no pollution and no main road in my view.
