Then we get a phone call saying that the price of rebar is more than he quoted so he'll need a bit more. I tell him that he should pay for it as it's his fault his quote is shit. He brings the money back and then I realise that I was being an arse and he's still more reliable than most of the other pricks (and cheaper as he is the Midget's uncle and he's doing it on the cheap due to family (his wife mainly) pressuring him).

I have to go over and apologise tonight and hope he doesn't tell me to piss off.

Fucking day one and it's doing my nut in. I think I'll just leave it to the Midget to sort out.
After 5 years, 6 contractors, tearing out and replacing 3 walls, 1 floor slab, repairing 9 water leaks, replacing 2 rolls of electric wire, and part of the roof, a year in court, and 2 million over budget I'm finally seeing some daylight. I only need the air conditioning, ceiling fans, and faucets installed and the inside will be complete. Then the security wall fiasco will begin. YAHOO!!

I shall exit through the bedroom. I handily put a door between the 2 rooms.

All very well until there's an axe wielding maniac coming IN the very door you were planning to use as an escape.

Just one glass of whiskey-soda. Dad had 3 or 4.

I don't. I prefer the wall space for shelves and to put the desk up against.

She'll be a machete wielding Midget maniac telling me to stop looking at porn and get to bed to 'sort her out'. All's good.

    Good luck Marmite.
It actually does get better after you have sorted them out and they know how you want things done, and won't accept any bullshit.

I know that everyone is assuming that they're doing the entire build; they're not.

At the moment, just the concrete posts and then maybe the rendering and the roof. We shall see.

Have you drawn a side elevation too?

I like how if you backup the car everyone in the communal area get the fumes. I guess if your MIL annoys you you keep the car running.

Suggest you lay in a good supply of hand tools. contractors here hate to spend money on such foolishness. Time savers and I considered it education for them. In the end you can keep them for later use or gift to the labor. Up to you. Hammers, levels, hand saws, squares, chisels, etc.

If they don't have decent tools then they are not worth hiring

They started digging holes today. Not sure when I can get any photos up as I've been busy all day and still have another few hours to do.

    Well Marmite,

Could be a good idea to just go over to Peters place and get on the piss for the entire time the build is on and let the Midget run amok doing it her way.

This way you are guaranteed to have a good time and when it foks up its all the Midgets fault.

I'm very much looking forward to this thread; I hope it turns out well, Marmite - perfect timing as my build is delayed by a few months, so I'll be nicely following behind you...

It's all open down that side, so no worries.

^ Is this the planned colour sceme too? & is that orange thing a slide for the kids, an exit chute for you or a disposal ramp for the MiL?

No. It'll have cream walls and a brown roof. Even the granny flat.
