    Windows Phone 7.5 'Mango' Released

Microsoft’s Mango will be gradually in season

Microsoft announced today that it had started to roll out its Windows Phone 7.5 update, also known as Mango; however only a minority of users will be able to upgrade their phones as of today, while other customers will be reached within the next four weeks.

Microsoft’s operating system for mobiles, Windows Phone 7, was launched almost a year ago; version 7.5 was previewed earlier this year, in May. Today, Microsoft Australia Windows Phone business group lead, Megan Howard, announced its introduction and claimed Mango offered hundreds of new features.

“Less than a year ago we introduced a brand new phone platform, designed to give people the things they want faster, easier and in a more intuitive way,” she said. “Mango is the next stage of that journey and offers hundreds of new features and experiences designed to build on the phone’s intuitive, 'people-first' foundation.”

Microsoft’s Windows Phone Division president, Andy Lees, said Mango reflected the smartphones’ tendency of becoming more and more “application launchers”, and therefore sported a series of new features to enhance interaction.
The updated version of Windows Phone supports Twitter and LinkedIn feeds, which add to those already existing of Facebook and Windows Live. Users can start a conversation with text messages and end it on a social media. Contact cards will also keep track of the history of these conversations.

Another new feature is the “Group” application, which allows clustering contacts in small groups, which will then appear as personalised “tiles” on screen: a function that, Microsoft claims, will allow users to connect with their friends quickly. Moreover, users will also be able to see multiple email accounts in one linked inbox, and to manage diverse applications without the need of switching them off: when not in use, applications will move to the background prolonging battery life.

Supporting HTML5, Microsoft promises Mango will also ease sharing content on social media, without the need to “copy and paste” from the web. “The power of a PC-browser plus support for HTML5 and full hardware acceleration graphics,” Microsoft stated. “This means you can quickly and easily share web pages with Social Networks directly from within the browser.”

Users on-the-go will also appreciate the “Local Scout” feature, which provides hyper-local search results and suggests places of interest nearby.
Microsoft has created an online table – “Where’s My Phone Update?”– to inform users when they will get the update. Microsoft has indicated that Australian carriers Optus, Vodafone and Telstra are already deploying the update. When their update is available users receive a message on their phone.

However they need a PC or Mac to install the update: it must be downloaded onto the computer and then installed on the phone.

How to force the Mango update if you haven't received it

    And it actually works....

Let’s see what we are going to need first.
A Windows PC with the latest version of Zune (download from here) i.e. V4.8xxx
A Micro USB data cable and lastly your WP7 device.
Some amount of courage and patience to do this.
Now let’s get to the exact steps of getting the Mango update for your phone!
    1. Install the Zune software on your PC
    2. Now connect your WP7 phone to the PC with the cable and launch Zune. It should launch on its own if you have allowed it.
    3. Click within the PC on Phone > Settings > Update. Allow the software to tell you if an update is available. If so, skip this guide. If not continue to the next step. This is done by clicking the ‘Phone’ on the left and the ‘Settings’ on the top (middle right).
    4. Now to force the update. Click any Option listed on the left of the software. Then click the ‘Update’ option again, and within 1-2 seconds disconnect your computer from the internet. Do this by pulling out the Ethernet cable, disabling Wi-Fi, etc. The screen will show it is searching for an update. If it says your phone is already up to date, you did not disconnect quickly and need to try this step once again.
    5. Wait 30 seconds or so and reconnect to the internet, Zune should display a notification that an update is available. This is 7392, the first pre-Mango update.
    6. Click Update on your PC screen and follow the instructions, don’t tap your phone’s screen in between to accept any notification. The phone should not be used during this time or it will not install the update or might brick it even.
    7. Once you’ve got this update installed, disconnect and reconnect to the internet and continue with the update process through the Zune software. After 7392 is fully installed, you may receive a notification that another update is available. If so, install it now. If not, proceed to the next step.
    8. If the second update isn’t showing up on its own in front of you, don’t worry, just repeat steps 2-5, this will make the 7403 update to appear. You know what to do here!
    9. Mango time! Once you have installed the 7403 update, your screen at this point will tell you another update is available, Zune will automatically start installing the last update, 7720, aka Mango. You won’t have to do anything.
    10. For some odd reason it doesn’t do the above, repeat steps 2-5 and you should see the tropical fruit update in front of your screens.
Remember, to follow the steps properly and to not use your phone in between. I have tried this method on a HTC HD7 and found it to work flawlessly. So if you can’t wait for your turn (I’m sure you are as impatient as I am), just follow these steps. Remember, World of Phones is not responsible for anything going wrong in your phone. This is just a work around and not the official way of getting Mango.

I haven't experienced any of these, then again I don't use my phone as a fucking ipod. But it's a bit embarrassing considering how long they delayed it.

Windows Phone 7.5 "Mango" update causes freezing and keyboard issues

    By Adrian Kingsley-Hughes | October 18, 2011, 10:31am PDT
Summary: There’s something rotten about Microsoft’s Mango update.
Microsoft’s latest Windows Phone 7.5 is causing problems for some of its users.
Two problems specifically stand out above the noise. The first is related to the Zune player and how the handset locks up when playing music.
A post on Microsoft’s support forum summarizes the problem:
    • A majority of user’s reporting this problem have devices from HTC.
    • Most of the HTC devices are HD7s
    • Problem does not occur when phone is rolled back to NoDo
    • Devices with and without DRM’d tracks have experienced the problem.
    • Disabling the artist picture on the lock screen makes the problem appear to go away (temporarily) but problem returns after next reboot
    • The problem is less likely to occur if the device is connected to a power source or the device’s screen is not locked
    • The problem has occurred on both MP3 and WMA tracks
    • The problem may be less likely to happen when bluetooth earphones or the phone’s speaker is being used instead of the headphones. This is still being tested.
Another problem is related to the keyboard and how it can vanish while it is being used. Unlike the Zune freezing bug this one doesn’t force you have to restart the handset by removing the battery, but it’s still annoying.
Microsoft has confirmed that it is investigating both these issues.
Other issues are also being reported include:
    • Decreased keyboard accuracy
    • Live tiles not updating
    • Zune freezes when using Aux cable
    • Voice commands not working (Samsung Focus)
    • Screen doesn’t turn off in call (Samsung Focus)
    • Excessive data usage
    • GPS problems
    • Battery not updating (LG Optimus 7)
