    oovoo problems

With skype now being owned by microsoft and the problems they have been having and the problems I have no doubt they will continue to have I decided to sign up with oovoo, and then the problems started.....

Now I keep my computers on all the time, then suddenly Monday I got the blue screen of death, irql=more or less than, something like that anyway, it was this pc and it has lots of old stuff in, so first thing taken out was an old 56kb modem card, reboot and everything is fine for a few hours, then another crash, disconnect one of the older hard drives and reboot, worked fine for a few hours and then the old blue screen, disconnect everything that wasn't needed, ie hdd etc, and another crash, think about it for a few minutes, boot up, close down oovoo and everything works fine and has done for the last 2 days.

I did find that oovoo wants to open 2 ports that windows doesn't want it to open, but that shouldn't crash the system, so is oovoo a bunch of crap?

Dude, In my 10 years working in desktop support and IT helplines, everytime I have seen the IRQ not less than equal causing a blue screen it has been a defective memory nodule problem every single time.

My mate in Brisbane uses Logitech Vid HD all the time now Logitech Vid to communicate.
Obviously having broadband or a decent computer is going to be an advantage, but it might be worth you looking at.

Must be oovoo then. Not sure why you're still on windows though, ubuntu never suffers from this blue screen nonsense.
Skype seems to have settled down also this last week.

During my last trip I used Google video chat exclusively with no problems. All my family use google so it made it easy to keep in touch. I did use skype to make a few calls to my insurance company (2 cents a minute) but this was before MS took over.

In my not unlimited experience (that predates Windows altogether) I'd say the vast majority of blue screens I've solved are to do with video cards/drivers.

I've been using Skype regularly through this whole thing without a hitch. Use it in the form of Android on my phone to make calls back home. Also had 5 or 6 PC video chats without problems in the last few weeks. I don't see what all the fuss is about. What specific problems are there with using skype?

I would hold off on using it on Android; apparently there is a bit of a security flaw on that platform which they are working to fix.

That depends on whether or not you buy Skype credit on your plastic.
