I am looking to buy an Android touch screen smart phone , which I hope to keep for a few years , ive done a bit of internet research about mobile phones here in Thailand , and the phrase 3G keeps coming up , it seems that its the way to go when buying a new mobile phone - get one than can use 3G . it currently may not be of benefit but could be in the future

Ive tried out a few phones on sale in the local mobile phone shops , and come to the conclusion that the touch screen has to be 4 inches or larger and as the phones I tested that really stood out had a Super AMOLED screen, that would be nice if possible.

keeping in mind the 3G option it seems the Thai carriers currently run on the following radio frequencies ..

True and DTAC - 850 Mhz
AIS - 900 Mhz
TOT - 2100 Mhz

I have been using Dtac for a long time and would like to stick with them if possible .

Now here's where I am getting stuck , the phones I can currently see on sale in Thailand that meet my screen requirements don't have the Dtac 3G frequency of 850 Mhz , I know that some of the soon to be released models may have the 3G frequencies I need , but I think they will be out of my budget range.

I could buy a phone from out side Thailand but considering it may not have a warranty , and be slapped with a hefty import tax , I would rather buy in Thailand

Would buying a new smart phone in Thailand that cannot use 3G , be a mistake considering 3G and its possible future here.

Any thoughts , comments or ideas please
