Where do I find those in Thailand ? if in Panthip, what floor would that be ?
I am looking for an independent Network drive with the SMB and FTP protocol for storage access,
basically a drive that I will plug into a RJ45 in a network hub

^ thanks, will take a look
also found this, looks promising
Buffalo 1TB LAN Drive
an alternative would be to buy a NAS case,

I bought a Buffalo 500gb portable last April and it crashed three months later. Wouldn't touch them.
^About to say just that. I put the missus off buffalo yesterday.
ah good to know, will focus on the LAN case thenOriginally Posted by harrybarracuda
they have a nice usb to ethernet adapter with built-in Samba and FTP server + TorrentOriginally Posted by harrybarracuda
which store do you think I could find that one ?
This one, a Synology ds207+ has survived many years... I don't know what disk is inside, either a WB or a Seagate I think...

Use internal drives.
I have 6 WD Green 3.5" (1x1.0TB and 5x2.0TB) drives and never had any problems with any of them.
Both My PC and laptop are networked and I use an 2-Bay e-SATA external dock connected to my laptop and a 4-bay RAID enclosure in my PC.
yeah I think someone must have missed the point of having a LAN drive, different animals
quite like those USB/LAN adapter with built-in SAMBA + FTP Server
Every farang knows that buffalos in Thailand are high maintenance itemsOriginally Posted by Jesus Jones
My 3.5" drives are all portable and can plug indirectly into my LAN in several places. All hot-swappable too.Originally Posted by harrybarracuda
I also have a 500GB WD Passport that I use for smaller files.
Err, no. I have a Gigabit ethernet LAN wired through my house and all my drives can be accessed through it.Originally Posted by Butterfly
In addition, I can stream Full HD content from any of those drives to both bedrooms in the house and the media centre in the living room.
Yes, I have lots of kit, too, but I think you're missing the point. My 3.5" drives are all portable and can plug indirectly into my LAN
No, I am telling you that internal drives are far more reliable and cheaper than externals. Plus you can swap them about if necessary.Originally Posted by harrybarracuda
Set up your network differently and you'll get better results.
Simples.
I think you are still missing the point, and the purpose of the thing, it's a network appliance, you probably don't have the need, so you don't understand the purpose of it.
and then you are confusing 3.5'' and 2.5'' drive between Internal and External, a different issue
you can have a Network drive that is 3.5'', same as what you have internally in your PC
the point is you want an appliance, not an external drive or USB drive
BF - If you are really serious you should look into getting an HDi Dune.
It's the only purpose built media player with gigabit LAN support and works as a network hub over FTP and SMB protocol. The Max and Base 3.0 models have internal 3.5" bays as well as USB and e-SATA support.
The Max retails at 17,000thb in Panthip.
No, I have given you a better solution.Originally Posted by Butterfly
No I am not.Originally Posted by Butterfly
I have 6 of them on my LAN network at the moment. All internal 3.5" drives and I can add and remove them at any time (hot-swap) so they are fully portable.Originally Posted by Butterfly
No, you want to set your LAN network up differently so you can use 3.5" internal drives instead of external enclosures.Originally Posted by Butterfly
I don't want a media player, I have the mac-mini for that, and other playersOriginally Posted by Nostradamus
I need a network appliance, it's the same as your media player without the software to play media and HDMI
you are still the missing the point
no you haven't, you gave me a solution for a media player, not a Network HD applianceOriginally Posted by Nostradamus
17,000 THB for a simple network drive ? are you out of your mind ? your solution doesn't make sense at all
they aren't on your LAN, they are shared on your desktop, that's a different thing. Or are you referring to something else ?Originally Posted by Nostradamus
Your LAN setup is amateurish, I did that 10 years ago, I want something that is more professional and that's why I need a Network HD drive.Originally Posted by Nostradamus
My LAN is a gigabit network which can stream Full HD content to 3 different rooms from my PC, my Laptop, all media components and all my hard drives. Everything is on the LAN network and can be accessed including my HDTVs, my media players, my amplifier, my blu-ray players and my XBox360's.
You want to set your network up differently so you don't use external drives.
Internal 3.5" drives give you more flexibility, more reliability and more storage for less money.
It's a fucking no brainer.
again you are not even understanding the question or the issue here
it's like asking the road to Pattaya and you want to send me to Chaing Mai
I understand the issue perfectly. You want an HDD to connect to your LAN. I am telling you to use internal 3.5" drives on your LAN instead of purpose built external enclosures.
