But why would he want to use one of those when his notebook can read the cards without one? He just wants to get the notebook working the way it should be. Asking for advice here is a reasonable request if you ask me, considering it is the computer forum and the heading at the top of the page says:

^ buying a replacement is a quick and cheap solution. why buggerize around for hours on end, getting nowhere ?


anyhow try this,

1) clean the contacts inside the reader if you can get to them,
2) reinstall the OS

What make and model of computer is it? Have you googled "manufacturer model card reader not working"?

It's never that easy. They'll probably tell you you need a new motherboard.

Easier to pick up a 250Bt multicard reader next time you get a chance.

Can anyone tell me why my location under my screen name keeps changing by itself? It went from "Bangkok" to "expat Thailand" to "Karon Beach" (wherever that is) all on it's own. Also my signature doesn't show.

Now it has changed to "Pattaya"
