Thailand - Software that you would pay money for

Thailand - Software that you would pay money for

Probably the most bought software in Thailand is Microsoft Windows, and at 150baht it is quite good value I suppose, but this thread is for good software that you would actually be sort of nearly willing to pay proper money for, so I shall start it off with Snagit.

I suppose you could use windows print screen but it seems to like to keep it a secret that it has actually worked and seems a lot of hassle, ie it wont work if your "Num Lock" is on, you have to press "ALT" & "Print Screen" if you want to capture just the main window, then it looks like nothing has happened till you open either MS Word, MS Photo Editor, or Adobe PhotoShop and press "CTRL" & "V" which is basically what you should be able to do with your mouse as you normally do when pasting, also you capture the whole screen so most likely have to crop the picture, so lets have a look at Snagit.

Snagit is marketed by techsmith.com and offer a 30 day free trial or $49.95 and it's yours for life, how any piece of software is worth that much is beyond me but I would definitely think about paying $20 for it if I lived in a normal country as it is actually pretty damn good.

With snagit you can choose a part of a page, all that your monitor shows, a scrolling page and just copy the lot to your pc with a couple of clicks, also you can steal videos just by copying them with snagit, those .jpg's that don't allow right click are also easily stolen just by copying them with snagit, all in all it's a pretty damn good bit of software that I might be willing to sort of pay the full price for if it wasn't available with the crack from torrent downloads

From techsmith's website.

If you can see it, you can snag it

Don't waste time cropping your captures. Snag exactly what you need, with just a click.

Profiles make it easy. Snagit comes with eleven preset buttons that make screen capture a cinch! Capture a region of your screen, text from a window, the contents of a tall page that scrolls, all the images on a Web page, you get the idea.

Custom suits you. Don't feel limited by the eleven profiles—create your own combinations for nearly unlimited capture possibilities. What's that? You want to set up a keystroke that captures a menu along with the mouse pointer...adds a drop shadow...and sends the image directly to your Wordpress.com blog? Sure, no problem!

A quick overview of snagit on video.

Windows Commander - Total Commander

Windows Commander is now called Total Commander and can be downloaded from ghisler.com for free for 30 days, after that it's $38, a bit steep for what it does but a bargain at half the price if you just download it from a torrent site.

The main thing I use this for is transferring files from different drives or folders and bulk renaming, this software does that pretty damn good, it's also good for getting rid of nasty virus stuff that your avg wont get rid of, ie for quick renaming of stuff that windows wont let you rename so you can delete it, breaking down programmes that are 30 day only and getting rid of the 30day bit and all fun stuff like that.

And from their website;

Features in Total Commander 7.50a now include :

* Two file windows side by side
* Multiple language and Unicode support
* Enhanced search function
* Compare files (now with editor) / synchronize directories
* Quick View panel with bitmap display
* ZIP, ARJ, LZH, RAR, UC2, TAR, GZ, CAB, ACE archive handling + plugins
* Built-in FTP client with FXP (server to server) and HTTP proxy support
* Parallel port link, multi-rename tool
* Tabbed interface, regular expressions, history+favorites buttons
* Thumbnails view, custom columns, enhanced search
* Compare editor, cursor in lister, separate trees, logging, enhanced overwrite dialog etc.
* New: Unicode names almost everywhere, long names (>259 characters), password manager for ftp and plugins, synchronize empty dirs, 64 bit context menu, quick file filter (Ctrl+S)

Multi-Rename Files, Thumbnail View, Folder Tabs
