| Works fine on my G5 - so unless you are on a G4, or (gasp) G3, you should be doing fine. Huh? Huh? Never had a problem with that. Looked at this: Apple - Mac OS X Leopard - Features or this: Apple - Mac OS X Leopard - Features - 300+ New Features Leopard Breadcrumb Navigation: Show Path in Finder | Mac OS X Leopard | Tech-Recipes Please, do not blame the Finder, or Apple, if you are just not willing to actually inquire and learn where specific features are. In the case of the breadcrumbs feature you decry as not existing, it's only 'hidden' under the view menu, clearly labeled as 'Show Path Bar'. You could also just CMD-CLICK on the window's title for a back-up navigation, up your hierarchy. I mean, seriously, come on! There are some gripes I have with the Finder, notably that it's not fully multi-threaded for example, but most earlier questions I had about it can usually be resolved in less than 5 minutes with Google. What other issues plague you?

Some of your problems are caused by running this on a G4 - while technically the G4 is capable of running Snow leopard (and even just Leopard), the G4 lacks components, and particularly the ability to address larger chunks of memory - lastly, the G4 architecture was hampered by very slow (comparatively speaking) memory access, limited by the memory architecture. Considering how cheap intel Macs have become, you may want to consider upgrading your nearly 8 year old Mac to something more suited to a modern operating system. This isn't a dig, it's merely reality. Dont you know what tabs are and how useful they can be? Yeah, sure do -- The finder has them on the left hand sidebar.

| Quote: Most G4 architecture systems are limited to 1GB of RAM, while Leopard really starts to shine with 2GB of RAM and above, for example. Quote: This isn't to mean that it's ready to be shuttered, but that it would be unrealistic to expect the same performance gains, or features support from Leopard that newer architecture, which it supports and is optimized for, does. The cost of upgrading some sub-systems simply becomes prohibitive, and others (i.e. RAM, bus speed) you simply can't upgrade. Then what do you want to use them for? Navigation wise, the sidebar performs a very similar function. | ||

| I have been trialing pathfinder and its excellent - the only real bugbear I have about it is that there's no "move to trash" option on the right click menu. If they would just add that one little thing I would actually pay (arrgghhh) for the program - I think it's that good. Those who don't like Vuze as compared to Azeurus can just operate Vuze in "classic mode" - then it looks the same as the old one but it less of a resource hog. |

| silly question: do they have "Windows Explorer" for Mac, I think it's far more superior product that all those Finder version, you have to give credit to MS when it's due, in terms if usability they did a far better job than Apple, but again they have much more money and can hire more talents. It's sad that Apple has been lagging for the last 10 years in that department and they didn't keep up with the originality they had in the 80s and 90s another silly question: can you boot directly into a LIVE CD (Linux) without going through the BootCamp mess ? |

| Does anyone have, or can anyone get a hold of a ripped OS X 10.5 (leopard)? I wanted to upgrade sooner rather than later as I have a couple of months of free maps with my Nokia N85 but the Nokia Map Loader is Leopard only Will reward handsomely **thought I would try in here first as it tends to be us Mac'ers that frequent**

You can find an appropriate download of OS X Leopard on pretty much any of the Bays that Pirates land in, I hear - though why not actually buy it, if you're going to use it? Of course, in Thailand you can just hop on over to Panthip Plaza, and a 100 Baht gets you the Leopard DVD.

| Did the Panthip thing and ended up with more duds than I care to tell you about Ripped ones off the net had the same result, didnt boot or get recognised. I ended up getting mine form here Apple Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard SINGLE LAYER DVD build 9A581 - Best Movie - Download Direct Link - Free Movies - Full Softwares This is a version with the developer tools etc removed so it should be about 4 gigs, it will burn to a single layer DVD. Its all in seperate .rar files, about 36 of them, so as its done by rapidshare you can download them one at a time. I paid for a few days premium access which was worth it as they cap the amount free users can download at one time. I takes its time from the boot to getting to the install but it does work. |

Either way, precisely because of the new double-layer capacity of OS X, I prefer to just buy one genuine copy every two years. The other option you should consider, is that instead of burning it to a DVD blank, just grab an 8GB USB memory stick, and *USE DISK UTILITY* to use the RESTORE function to copy the DVD onto the stick -- works like a charm, and installs in 1/10th the time.

| I think that will only work if youre on an Intel Mac. I tried to use my iPod to do it but PPC's cant all boot from USB, the image was a dud as well. I had an original before I came to Thailand, sold it, went to Panthip for a backup to use in case of emergency which is when the duds started rolling. |

That way you can also keep a bunch of additional updaters and installers on that emergency drive.

| Cheers guys - some valid and interesting points. Like you say DD it might be worth just going out and getting the retail version of Leopard from the shop - I think its retailing for about $130. I will still checkout ya link but melvbot as a have a few DL DVD's sitting in the cupboard. In the meantime I have someone with a MBP running on leopard who is going to download the program and let me sync my phone to see if the end result is worth all the hassle. |

| Safari 4 public Beta has been released. Im using it now and I must say it seems pretty quick, only time will tell if it stays that way. Tabs are at the top of the page which makes sense as I hate that page info that sits there for no other reason that to tell you the name of the page you know youre looking at. Coverflow for bookmarks and visual bookmarks when you open a new tab the same a few FF add ons can do. Apple - What’s new in Safari - See the new features available in Safari 4 Beta for Mac and PC. |
