    Free MS Office

I have never paid for software in my life and I have no intention of starting now just because MS are trying to get clever with the Office licensing.

Anybody got any tips for what version of office can be installed and cracked on Win10 x64?

I cannot even get office 2013 to install after removing the 'too clever about licensing' Office 2016

I am even considering resorting to something called libreoffice.org

There is supposed to be a free lightweight version of Office online but I cannot get it to create a document. Just says 'sorry try later'

Sign up for MS Office 365 online free for a month trial. When the trial is up, cancel it but keep the programs. You can keep using it with the only distraction being closing the bar that appears saying "hmmm you need a license".

    https://products.office.com/en-gb/try

Or if you don't really need to use it properly download a open source program

You can buy a genuine license on eBay for about $15.

The latest Office 2019 Pro with lifetime license is a bit more.
It's a good price considering there's no subscriptions and Office is actually a good collection of software worth having.

Must confess I broke with tradition by paying for Win10, without realising it was part of the puter deal.

If you've never paid for software you're probably familiar with torrents, so would if I could email it to you but there are plenty of working torrents out there. Otherwise pseudo's way sounds good.

I've used Kingsoft with no dramas. It's compatible with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, at least I've had no problems.

Libre office has not been a winner with me (it's likely ok, but I'm probably not using it correctly).

I agee with that. Better than nothing for sure but not as good as MS Office. I'd rather pay for the latter than keep using the freeebie former.

Open Office was great last time I used it. Hardly any difference to MS.

I agree that Libre is not the best.

Looks like Open Office is the way to go.

Free Open Office. Can read all creation of MS. And an easy possibility to direct saving in pdf.

Remove everything that Office 2016 left behind, with Revo Uninstaller, then try installing 2013 again.

If you want good software then get into the habit of paying for it and making comments on how it can be improved to suit you.

    Stop being a tightwad tefler.

You can use any of the open source ones, and if you had the slightest shred of integrity you would donate $5 to their efforts, you ungrateful bastard.

    That does not count.

I have had a go. The interface is not very slick like MS but seems fully functional for DOCX (reviews, comments, track changes etc.) complex formulas from XLSX are all working

I use Libre office and it's OK.

The only thing I miss is MS Outlook

This works, but make sure you remove all previous traces and follow steps carefully.

Also, when removing old installs always reboot before re-installing.

I had a look on eBay. There are some sellers listing LibreOffice for $20. That is the true spirit of free enterprise!

The ribbon icons are bit pixelly and cruddy like a 1990s videgame. Gives it a kind of cool retro feel I suppose.

Of course it does. If you buy a computer without Windows it is cheaper than one with.

So you have paid for software "in your life".

I know about that in the EU. About €10 for Windows, €10 for Office 2016, If you want the latest Office 2018 it is presently €20. Full versions accepted by Microsoft as legit, but only when installed in the EU. Any similar legal situations elsewhere?

I'd ditch that and go for Office 2019.

There is nothing really listed on eBay AU but on eBay UK there are heaps of listings for Office2016 for a handful of shekels.

Lucky UK is still in Europe (for another month or so!)

If you are just buying a license key and a software download on teh interwebs how do they know if you are in Europe or not?
