    Dingle Dongle Tamblurine man

    Play a song for Lu.

    A Dongle.

    Or Dongle router.

    That is the question.

AIS and dtac etc have those 4G daily/weekly/monthly data packages.

    For example:

But want it for a computer and not a phone.

So how do I do it?

Buy a USB thing that has a sim card slot.
    Then buy a sim card.
Place said sim card into said sim card slot....

    Or something along those lines.

Or some sort of Dongle router?

Or get one of those packages for my phone's sim card and 'tether' it?

So buy a WiFi USB thingamajig, and set it up to tether off my phone?

    Cheers.

Would prefer it direct to my laptop rather than tethering through my phone, if possible.

Thank you very much for any info.

Most phones you can use as a hotspot. Works good enough for normal internet use...for me anyways. Pretty useless for dling shows or anything though

Yeah, and setting it up on computer, as opposed to going through a phone?

The USB device with sim, I believe is called an air card in Thailand. Wife used to have one but she thinks the telcos don't do them any more, at least the telco she was with doesn't. I got one (called a vodem by Vodaphone in NZ) last year in NZ, so obviously the technology hasn't been superceded.
Ask for "air card" at Banana or any of those techy shops.

A dongle/air card with a SIM in it stuck into the usb of a computer ... or ... use the SIM card in a phone and either tether them with a cable or use the Hotspot facility on the phone. The phone will give off a signal for you to connect your computer to by clicking a wifi connection icon on your computer. The phone hotspot method is the easiest.

I have to disagree. Many a time when the hotel wifi has been shite, I've used my phone as a hotspot to stream live TV (with a decent resolution, too).

So if it can do that, it can download.

    Cheers.

Found a Wifi USB and did a tether test at home, and the computer/Wifi Stick picked up the connection okay. The phone wouldn't become a hotspot with the Wifi on, and has to go through a data connection, so didn't get to test the speed on the computer when connected that way.

Am used to a 100mb D/L speed at home, and would hope for similar.

Do you know what sort of D/L speeds people typically get off a tether to a phone hotspot?

Is it typically slower than a dongle/air card with a SIM in it stuck into the usb of a computer, or around the same.

Wouldn't really want anything slower than say 20mb d/l.

On a package such as this:

Location would be inside a city.

    Thanks.

    To answer that myself...

Bought a package at '100mb maximum speed'.
Set the phone up as a Hotpspot.
Tethered the PC to it with the Wifi stick.

    Off the home connection:

Then tethered to the phone's hotspot:

    Which isn't good enough.

The Wifi stick would also only connect to the PC it's usually stuck in, stuck it into 2 other PC's and neither showed any recognition of it, besides the 'bing bing' beeping when it was inserted.

That 9mb d/l speed is in Bkk, btw.

Doubling it up to around 20 mb would be okay.

Should connecting to the same package via USB aircard/dongle have better speeds that tethering it to the phone's hotspot?

    Cheers.

I think it would depend on the quality/speed of the particular phone or dongle. They aren't all the same.

And if your phone has dual SIM slots, try the other slot. More than one AIS/DTAC phone sales "expert" has told me that can make a difference to speed. Worth a try.

Cheers. Will look more into the speed of different dongles.

    Thanks.

they are correct - normally only 1 radio is "4g"

and just buy one of these if you want battery powered wifi "4g" hotspot and do not want to buy a cheap phone

    Buy TP-LINK LTE-Advanced Mobile WiFi M7350 - invadeit.co.th
