I just bought an Apple Mac Pro Laptop

Can anyone tell me some of the tricks it can do.

I only surf the web and download movies.

But are there any other special apps that I could utilize?

    Cheers.

Command-Shift-4 turns your cursor into a screen shot grabber. Just stretch it to what you want to grab. Image gets put either on your desktop or documents.

Command-Q turns off whatever application you are in.

Command-(plus sign or minus sign) changes your text and screen size.

    Congrats on the new machine.

You can drag applications to your menu bar at the bottom of the screen. Then Left click on an application and choose options. There you can tell it to start it when you turn on the machine.

If you want to create back ups, download SuperDuper. It makes a bootable back-up so you can start up with an old configuration if your hard disk dies. My old MacBook had a drive die after eight years and it was pretty cool to boot up the back up and see my old desktop icons, and then just slide the disk image over to the new drive. I've also used Sophos Anti Virus but it has never found anything.

They are waterproof so you can use it quite safely in the bath, shower or swimming pool.

Pour alcohol onto it and set it alight for 1 minute.
This will dry out residual moisture.

    Too risky.

Laptops and 'puters don't like wet stuff.

I remember this guy who brought his laptop to the bar and opened it up to surf and (woops!) somebody spill somethin'.....

    OP: Why?

No offense, but I can get a decent ACER for about a tenth of the price that does everything my wife needs a laptop to do.

What do you do with a piece of kit like this that makes it worth in the range of $2000?

Not being critical, just don't get it.....

Also, standing it up sideways and setting it in concrete makes an attractive bookend/paperweight.

C'mon people - this is barbara we're talking about.

If he can figure out how to switch it on it'll be a major achievement by his standards.

Which is a step up from his old "Apple Macbook Pros; Discuss" threads.

If it is still not working just put it in the tumble dryer for half and hour - warm setting only to avoid damage!

The base entry MacBook Pro is in the region of $1200, fitted with the latest Haswell 4 th gen Intel dual core i5 chip, has retina display, 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD flash storage with Intel Iris graphics. It's also very whizzy to look at and to touch.

Frankly, fpr that build quality and spec the price is similar to other laptops in the range by Samsung, Acer etc.

You are not comparing like with like. Apple just don't sell sell cheap stuff whereas other manufacturers do but they also compete with Apple and where they do prices are broadly similar.

Also, it comes with a splendid OS with many useful applications which are free.

It has the amazing ability to separate non-tech people from copious amounts of cash.

Looks impressive to all the sheep at the local over priced coffee house.

Manages to do 1/2 as much as a comparatively priced notebook but would probably make it easier to pick up a Katoey at said over priced coffee house.

And as mentioned above it's waterproof!
I'm not saying it was Aliens, but it was Aliens!
