    Help!

Is Baldrick still around on these forums?

I would be greatful for his help.

I have video, recorded in MKV X264 format AAC - MP3, The video plays OK on VLC, however Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 Will not recognise it and cannot load it for editing.

I have tried to convert it using "ANYDVD" with AVI, MP4, MPEG2, MPEG1 formats and they all fail and I end up with a 4KB file in my converted video folder.

Any ideas as to how to get this thing into Premiere Pro?

    I am stumped.

There is more to it than a simple conversion Harry.
This is a strange strange file. It will play on a PS3 and on VLC, it will not convert on Anydvd, it will not even show up as a file on Media Player or Media Player Classic, nor can it be played by Quicktime or Real.

It says it is MKV format, but I have loads of these that work fine.

If I try to play the 1.5GB file on Media Player Classic, it displays a blank screen for 7 seconds - the movie is over 2 hours long.

Another weird thing is that when played on the PC using VLC, there is only the movie file, no add ons like subs etc. However, when played on a PS3 it comes on with English subtitles and an English audio dub.

Never seen anything quite like it.

I'll check out that "Super Video Converter" Thanks, but there seems to be more to this file than that.

    Thanks.

(What does VLC do with it?)

Scratch that, I see you can play it with VLC.

If VLC can play it, Super can probably convert it.

Thinking of it, I believe you can do some kind of conversion with VLC itself, to MP4 maybe.

I downloaded Super, (It is a damn good program for freeware!!!!) but it just comes up with an error when I try to load this video weird!

Thanks anyway, I will see if I can get another download of the original movie in MPG or AVI. Got me stumped.

What error? It might explain the problem.

Perhaps the file is corrupted in some way, VLC is better at ignoring these things than many video players.

Have you checked the file out with Gspot?

Also, you may want to find a program which fixes mkv files as it seems you'll need to fix it before you can recode it.

No, I haven't used Gspot before, I will take a look. Thanks! I have managed to recode some MKV files before straight from Anydvd, but let me check out Gspot first - thanks for the tips!

I think I need to download a better copy of the video - that Gspot just comes up with "File Unknown" "MIME Unknown" Weird how it plays on VLC and PS3 but nothing else - it doesn't even show up as a valid file type for After Effects or Premiere!

It looks like you haven't got the codecs to play it on your player. VLC has codecs built in. Download K-lite codec pack.

Already got K-Lite, so that is not the issue.....

I found the chunk of video I needed here on Youtube, would have saved me downloading 1.5 hours of the thing if I had bothered to look in the first place, however I can now download this section with Youtube downloader and convert it from there. Thanks for all you help - check out the video, not for the squeamish!

You really have to hand it to them for the way they process the food like Tescos though...............................

Colour is only skin deep right? or am I missing something?

    Welcome to Groid HELL!
