    Hi Wayne,

What sort of price would you expect for the bike, it is very nice.

welll have a guess, he paid 40K for it, tis only 2-3 years old.

i'm guessing he'll be wanting something like 2/3rds of the price new.

    so abouts 30K

I was thinking about starting a thread because I want to buy a mountain bike and then I saw this. Unfortunately it is a bit too flash for me. Anyone have something a little more stock standard that they want to sell?

Probably a little less than that for a quick sale or "mates rates".

Let me know how much you're looking to spend. I know a bloke in the local mountain bike club.

    199 baht

You are in the local mountain bike club? Sorry, couldn't resist!

Nah in all seriousness the most I have ever paid for a bike is about 10,000 baht so it would have to be cheaper then that.

Hey, Wayne, slightly of topic but just to let you know we used the stove. 3 kilos of pork roast. 2 hours, beautiful. Cheers.

Yep bloody beauty for chunks of meat like that. From Bangkok to your shed and a good cook up in less than a week. Marvelous!

Timber was telling me about your lobsters lastnight, going to order some in over the next couple of weeks, he was very enthusiastic about them.

^ Buy the Trek Memock. Comes with a training wheel, decent bike and will last forever.

But i wouldn't have a clue how to look after it.

I have a friend in laos who is a very serious mountain biker and races in Thailand and he is forever cleaning wheels, changing things, oiling, fixing etc. I just want a bike I can through in the shed until the next time I want to ride it.
News is what someone, somewhere is trying to suppress - everything else is just advertising.

When the chain gets rusty, put some oil on it. When the tyres get a bit flat, put some air in them.

    That's it!

but why spend 40,000 on a bike when a 5 - 10 k bike does the same job?

Apply the reasoning to a car purchase.

You could buy a Toyota Vios for 550k, a Corolla for 750k or a Camry for 1M k. It is the same with bikes. You can get a run of the mill hardtail mountain bike for 15k in Bangkok with ok components and a heavy frame or you can splash out anything up to 200k+ on a racer with top spec components and a superlight frame.

    I realise that squiz so replace 40 k with 30 k.

Gabriel, for the type of riding that I want to do, around a few dirt tracks, over the river and to the next village I am more then happy with a vios of 550k

It does become quite addictive and people get very much involved in the sport. Thus, they are willing to pay much higher prices for quality gear.

As you said, for riding a few dirt tracks you won't need to start on much more than 15k. Also ensure to budget a few k more for the helmet, gloves, sunglasses and shorts. You will need them.
